CHAPTER IV

METHODOLOGY

A. Operation Definition
In order to arrive at a common understanding, the following terms used in the
study are hereby defined:

Academic
It refers to the performance of the student in all their classes being assessed in
their classroom skills and actions. (www.scribd.com)
Assessment
It refers to the action or an instance of making a judgment about something.

Canteen
Also known as cafeteria, a restaurant in which customers serve themselves or are
served at a counter and take the food to eat. (www.scribd.com)
Cafeteria
Is a type of food service location in which there is little or no waiting staff table
service; whether a restaurant or within an institution such as a large office building or
school; a school dining location is also referred to as a dining hall or canteen.

Canteen Management
In this research it includes the management of customers, the food and products
sold and its staff management.
School canteen
The establishment found in school that sells food and product for the school and
this is where the eat their food, it is the cafeteria of the school.
Facilities
In this research it refers to the tables, chairs, utensils and cooking equipment used
in food preparation and dining for the accommodation of its customer.
Quality of food
It refers to the quality characteristics of food that is acceptable to consumers. This
includes external factors as appearance, texture, and flavor; factors such as federal grade

Quality of service
This refers to the manner of service employed by the cafeteria personnel
reflecting the personality of the server. (www.scribd.com)
Nutrition
It refers to the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and
growth. (www.googledefinition.com)

Junior High School


a school usually including grades seven to nine. (Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate
Dictionary)
In this study, “Junior High School” referred to a school that includes grades seven
to tenth.
Academy
is a private school that provides training in special subjects or skill. (Merriam-
Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary)
B. Data Requirements

This study was conducted in Saint Jerome’s Academy of Bagabag, Inc.


specifically the Junior High School Department. This catholic school is headed by Rev.
Fr. Restituto O. Valdez and his two principals; Mrs. Anna Lisa S Manuel for the
Elementary Department and Mrs. Mila Laguardia for the High School Department. The
participants of this study are the Junior high school students from Grade 7 to Grade 8
who were chosen randomly with 20 students per section, that gives as a total of 100
students who will answer our questionnaire. Another participant is the administration
who will be interviewed on their view of expectation about the school canteen.
C. Data Collection procedure

This study made use of the phenomenology design for the purpose of the assessment of
canteen management based on perceptions of high school students of Saint Jerome’s Academy. It
was done by gathering data through the use of test questionnaires and interview which will be
analyzed and interpreted to come up with a transparent result. An informed consent was given to
each respondent who willfully accepted and honestly answered the questions. After the
questionnaires were collected, the date collected were analyzed and interpreted for the making of
conclusion and recommendation.
D. Plan of Analysis

After gathering the data requirements in the study, they were tallied, tabulated, analyzed
and statistically treated using the following tools.

 Tabular Form – We sort the data needed through in tabular form. Tabular form makes
the gathered data organized. This tabular form includes the number of respondents, the
percentage of the students who are agree and disagree with the canteen management.
 Tally – In tallying, it helps us to figure out easily how the chosen respondents perceive
the management of the canteen.
