Subject: Surveying
(CE-1201)

Time: 2 Hours Answer all the questions Full Marks: ……

1. A 20m steel tape standardized on a flat ground at a temperature of 20 ℃ under a pull of 15 kg. The
tape was used catenary at a temperature of 30 ℃ under a pull of 10 kg. The cross sectional area of
the tape 0.02cm 2 and its total weight is 400g. The young’s modulus and co-efficient of linear
expansion of steel are 2.1 × 106 kg /cm2 and 11×10−6 per ℃ respectively. Find correct horizontal
distance.

2. A 30m steel tape standardized on a flat ground at a temperature of 30 ℃ under a pull of 15 kg. The
tape was used catenary at a temperature of 40 ℃ under a pull of 10 kg. The cross sectional area of
the tape 0.05cm2 and its total weight is 400g. The young’s modulus and co-efficient of linear
expansion of steel are 2.1 × 106 kg /cm2 and 11×10−6 per ℃ respectively. Find correct horizontal
distance. Measure it with every 15 per span.
