What is your stand on the treatment being given to the healthcare providers especially the

nurses, in terms of their employment during this pandemic?

Nurses as brave medical front liners serving their best for the Filipino people during this time of
pandemic are sadly mistreated. There are threats on their safety as they put their lives on the
line despite receiving low salary. Nurses are still not compensated enough even if there have
been increase in pay due to the signed Salary Standardization Law. The 500 peso per day hazard
pay that most nurses are expecting to receive is deducted and is not fulfilled. There have been
reports proving this current hazard pay issue. Aside from salary issues, nurses are not well-
equipped to keep them safe as there is shortage in supply and distribution of personal
protective equipment that are highly essential for a worker to prevent from being infected by
the virus. Nurses are overworked as positive COVID-19 patients continue to surge. Nurses are
also facing stigma and discrimination. They are treated as threat by some of the public. Nurses
are deprived of eating and drinking as they cannot remove their PPE’s. They have been also
restrictions on their urinary and bowel elimination. Moreover, there have been temporary
deployment ban for medical workers limiting their rights to have proper compensation.

What is your vision on the health of the community as we are facing now this COVID-19 and will
be transforming to the new normal

My vision would be about the adaptation and adjustment on changes in new normal setting as
to cope with challenges in public health, economy, social community, education, and
environmental sustainability. I envision the health state of the community to be secured by
being resilient in times of adversity, helping one another in facing threats of the coronavirus
pandemic. Thus, adhering health and safety regulations instituted by medical professionals,
following health protocols and guidelines, strictly complying with the rules, being informed
citizen about current health situation to minimize effects and health risks of the virus. Construct
systematic planning of flexible and alternative solutions to be able to control and mitigate
negative impacts of the virus by carefully assessing and prioritizing needs of people and
analyzing proper course of action in responding to the necessities of people in full commitment
for the betterment of the society.

In your opinion, do the government outweigh the needs of the community through their health
promotion? What is the outcome of the health promotion to the community?

The government values and give significance and emphasis to the needs of the community with
the use of health promotion. Health promotion leads to the promotion of health and well-being
of the people, prevention and control of diseases especially those who are at risk, protection of
the community to health threats and treatment, management and rehabilitation of people who
are affected by diseases. It aims to achieve equity in health by providing equal opportunities to
each and every one and it empowers people to attain and maintain healthy lives. Health
promotion enables people to have control and to improve their overall health to enhance the
quality of life.
