Match the verbs on the left to the words on the right to make phrases.

When we want to talk about something we saw or events in the past, we use there was/there were.
In the present we use there is/there are.
singular plural
+ There was a park. + There some restaurants.

Short answers
Yes, there was. / No, there wasn't.
Yes, there were. / No, there weren't.
• We often use there was / there were with a/an, some and any.
• We use some and any with plural nouns.
• Use some in positive (+) sentences, and any in negative sentences (-) and questions (?).
• some = not an exact number.
