(i) Using the knowledge of Maxwell’s equation, find the curl of the induced electric field
at that location.
(ii) The electric field has 3 components, Ex (in the direction of x0-,Ey (in the direction of
y), Ez (in the direction of z). Using the result from part (a), find the x component of
the electric field if the y component is assumed to be zero.
2. a) Explain with proper figures (in detail): In the Faraday’s electromagnetic equation (also known as
Maxwell’s 3rd equation), why the sign of the time derivative is negative but the curl part (of electric field)
is positive.

Also explain (with proper figures): if the sign ‘were’ positive, what would happen!!!!

b) (i) calculate the divergence of this function: 25xyz + 19xy+ 30xz

(ii) calculate the curl of this function: 25xyz + 19xy+ 30xz
(iii) Calculate the gradient of this function: 25xyz + 19xy+ 30xz

3. If any EM field fails to satisfy Maxwell’s Equation and the wave equation derived from them,
then that is said to be nonexistent or not Maxwellian. Suppose the following expressions exist
in charge free-regions. Find weather they are Maxwellian or not? State why the expression/s
are not Maxwellian. (Show Calculation)

a. A=40 sin( ωt+10 x )a z

c. C=( 3 ρ cot ∅ a p + a∅ )sin ωt

4. a). Explain the significance of Biot-Savart Law in deriving Maxwell’s 4th equation. By
applying Biot-Savart Law, prove ∮ H́ . d́l=Ifor a uniform path.

b). Express the following vector in Cartesian Coordinates.

(i) A=pzsinφ a ρ +3 ρ cosφ a φ + ρ cos φsinφ a z

(ii) B = r ar + sinθ aφ

5. (i) A source free ‘lossy’ region is a region, where there is no net charge and no current.
Rewriting the Maxwell ‘s equations accordingly show that in a source free ‘lossy’ region, the
wave equation becomes:

2 δE δ2 E
∇ E−μσ −μϵ 2 =0
δt δt
(ii) Given, É = 25 sin (2π×106 t – 6x) a^ z V/m.
 Find direction of the propagation of wave
 Calculate time period, wave length, velocity
 At t = 0, T/8, T/4, T/2 sketch the wave shapes
6. a) According to this figure, if it’s possible to create magnetic monopoles in a
spherical closed surface, then find out the amount of total magnetic flux. N N

(b) Find div F́ and curl F́ for F́ = x2y i^ – (z3 – 3x) ^j + 4y2 k^

c) Determine whether these following pairs satisfy Maxwell’s equations or not. [It means:
by using Maxwell’s differential equations, you have to figure out whether these equations
are satisfying those four-point relations or not]
 É= 2y a^ y, H́ = 5x a^ x
 É= 100 sin(6×107t) sin(z) a^ y, H́ = -0.1328 cos(6×107t) cos(z)a^ x
