MULTICULTURAL LESSON PLAN

Student__________________________________

Subject/Concepts_________________________ Grade Level__11____

1. Standards:
o Observable objective: figurative language and nuance and academic vocabulary
 Multicultural goal: to develop a positive attitude towards one’s own cultural background
o Observable objective: comprehension, application and analysis
 Auditory-Visual-Kinesthetic learning styles: for auditory: make a jeopardy style game with words
and their definitions; visual: taking notes on vocabulary words, etc.; Kinesthetic: make a game
where students get up and move around
 Gardner's Intelligence: Interpersonal intelligence: implemented by thinking about our peers’
feelings and being sensitive to each other’s moods during jeopardy and about other’s questions.

2. Materials: powerpoint with all vocabulary words, jeopardy powerpoint game, and a follow along
hand out with game rules, mini quiz, and paper

3. Instruction- learning Process:

 Do First: Each student chooses a word at random out of a hat and has to look up the definition
and write it down.
 Mini-lesson: all students will get up and have a blank paper on each desk and switch seats
throughout the room and write their definition on that piece of paper until everyone is in their
seats again
 Guided Practice: play jeopardy word game in teams
 Independent Practice: worksheet with each vocabulary word and the students have to write each
definition
 Exit Slip: take a mini match the definition to the word quiz

4. Resources:

5. Reflection: The specific concepts, skills and applications that the student needs to reach for the
identified grade level is understanding the meaning of the words and how to apply it. The multicultural
knowledge that the student has achieved is understanding that a classmate’s definition of a word may
mean something different to them. The student’s engagement and active learning will be based on
participation points and each student having to speak at least once to receive participation points.
Strengths of the plan are to get the students involved, keep their attention and also have them moving.
Weaknesses are that it is vocabulary based.
