Steps to Receive the Anointing of the Sick

1. Prayer of Faith- the priest or bishop gather with some members of the Catholic community to pray for the sick in
form of a litany. This makes sure that the sick people are united with their brothers and sisters in Jesus.

2. Laying on of the Hands- the priest will then place his hands on the sick person’s forehead to show that they are the
centre of the prayer. Also, it is a sign of God’s soothing power and a symbolic calling to the Holy Spirit to watch over the
sick person.

3. The Anointing- The priest will anoint the feet and hands of the candidate with blessed olive oil whilst
simultaneously saying a prayer that asks God the send grace, healing power and love to this sick person

4. Prayer after Anointing- Lastly, the priest will say a quick but meaningful prayer aimed at the candidate. This prayer
expresses that Church’s trust and hope that God will strength this sick person and also to send down the Holy Spirit to
lay amongst them.
