Soft Skills in the Classroom

“Soft skills get little respect but will make or break your career”- Peggy Klaus

Soft skills are skills you already know how to do before entering the workforce.

They help people personally and help people grow relationships with other people. Every

job would be a lot more challenging if people didn't have soft skills. Teaching requires a

lot of soft skills. Leadership, communication, teamwork, organization, patience, and

creativity are just a few soft skills that are needed to become a successful teacher.

Communication, teamwork, and creativity are most important if someone wants to

become a teacher.

Communication is key for every job. From communicating with students to

instrucking someone on how to build something. We use our communication skills more

than we think so doing a job without communicating would make any job a lot more

difficult. www.iiste.org says that “ Teachers with poor communication skills may cause

failure of students to learn and promote their academics”. Communication is very

important for the workplace because people need to be able to deliver and receive

important information in order to be successful.

Teamwork makes the dream work in the workplace. Teamwork includes things

like working with people to achieve a certain goal, splitting a huge task up so more

people can work on it together, and giving a coworker ideas. According to

degree.astate.edu “This type of teamwork contributes to a greater sense of trust and

accountability, and it allows teachers to feel confident about contributing their most

dynamic skills toward school improvement”. Teamwork skills help people solve

problems, come up with new ideas, and it builds people's confidence which makes them

feel valued.

Creativity in the workplace is vital in order to have a successful business to be

successful at your job. As a teacher in order to stay organized and be the best teacher

possible it takes creativity. Teachers have to create lesson plans and come up with

different and fun ways for students to learn. The National EDucation Associations states

that “ The most important lesson to teach with creativity is the one that is rarely assessed

but is key to a child's educational successes: they'll love school”. Creativity helps people

see things different, become a problem solver, and it inspires others to do their best.

Even though soft skills are very necessary to be successful for jobs, they are not

the only skills needed in the workplace. Hard skills are learned as you begin and continue

your career. Examples of hard skills are technical skills, computer skills, and marketing

skills. However, communication, teamwork, and creativity are the most important skills

to have in the workplace and to have as an employee.

It is important to have communication skills, teamwork skills, and creativity

because they make it easier to form relationships with people and set people up for

success. They help employees by building trust and dependability. These traits can help

people get their dream job and be successful at it.
