Comprehension Questions: Chapter 1

1. What is the telephone game? The telephone game consist basically of transmit a phrase, world
or story of something person by person until the last gamer. The content in the massage little by
little is going losing its original meaning.
2. How is this analogy used in contemporary biblical study? The dynamic is the same, but in the
context of the Gospel and Jesus. This meaning, that the Gospels and all the worlds and deeps of
Jesus were transmitted orally through generation to generations, in the Empire, and thousands of
people. This analogy support a theory of contemporary biblical study to say that Jesus and the
Gospel were losing their original meaning through age by age. We had been learning of Jesus and
his worlds over the Gospel, but without any certain that very world is in certain that Jesus did and
said.
3. In Pitre’s undergraduate education, what three things did he learn about the gospels? 1) To
forget who wrote the Gospels. 2) The Gospels were originally anonymous. Also, He discovered
others gospel that were not in the bible as the Gospel of Thomas “lost gospels.”3) Moderns
scholar do not believe in Jesus as God, that Jesus claimed God.
4. What is C.S. Lewis’ argument against Jesus just being a good moral teacher? There are
three premises of this moral teacher. These three ideas are over Jesus from different perspectives
as Jesus was a liar, lunatic or Lord. Lewis compared these foolish thing that people often say
about Jesus. He finishes his argument saying, “I have to accept the view that he really was and is
God.”
5. What the fourth option the Pitre presents? Legend, Jesus claim as God is a legend. A legend is
based on not true or real events or real facts. In this sense, “I am God” never took place. Anyway,
Jesus is not God.
6. What support the idea that Jesus never claimed to be God? According Bart Ehrman, Jesus
could be not a liar, lunatic or Lord. He gives the benefit of the doubt to say that Jesus just was a
Jewish that he needs to proclaim a different message, and not like God.
7. What three things did Pitre learn during this PhD studies? 1. Pitre learned during his studies
that the gospels were original anonymous, so he started to investigate about four anonymous
gospels, and he could not find any copy of anonymous manuscript. 2. His professors taught him
that synoptic gospels does not proof that Jesus proclaim himself as God, but Pitre needed to go
back to the Judaism culture, and he saw visibly that Jesus did claim to be God. He discovered this
only from a Jewish perspective. 3. The notion of Jesus never proclaim himself as God, it is a
thesis spread around formation centers. Indeed, he looked that fallacy of Jesus never said, “I am
God” that is now went this idea is widespread everywhere.
8. Who is the audience for this book? “Anyone who has ever had questions about exactly who
Jesus of Nazareth claimed to be.” Including believers and not, Christians or not, practicing or not,
or little of both.
What do these vocabulary words and phrases mean in context?
1. Ignoramus: (p2) noun. This mean that Pitre’s professors had all the true and there is no
any mistake about the subjects the Gospels and Jesus. In the other side, Pitre as student
had no idea over gospel and Jesus. In conclusion, Peter most to learn and listen from his
infallible professor despite his error.
2. Flashed: (2) verb. Pitre was listening to his professor all the affirmations of the gospel
and did and said of Jesus. During the time that he was putting attention to the professor.
Pitre has in his might a rain of questions in a period of seconds over the premises taught
in his class. Because, before star his formation knew that Jesus is God, we know author’s
gospel, and its historical veracity.

telephone game to say that at the end of year, generations etc., we have not
certain of true and authenticity of the gospel, did and said of Jesus.
