Grades & Homework

Grades are on PowerSchool (PS) here.

Log In Info:
• Returning student? Same log in as last year.
• New student? Bring your student’s ID to the main office to get set up!
How to Access PowerSchool
• Through the website
• Through the app
o Consider setting up alerts so that you receive regular notifications!

Homework in 5th Grade

Overview:
• Assignments will be posted in the Weekly News email on Fridays.
• Students should spend 60-90mins on homework each night.

Reading (30 mins):


• Monday-Thursday they will have a combination of…
o Choice reading
o Response work
o Skill-based reading with questions
o Online reading tasks
• NOTE: Students may choose to work ahead over the weekend, if they request the reading packet from Mrs. Orr the
Friday before.

Writing:
• An occasional assignment to be listed in the Weekly News

Math (20-30 mins):


• Monday-Thursday there will be a worksheet
o You can also print it on Mrs. Copenhaver’s website here
• If you child spends less then 20 mins on the worksheet, please have them do review work from the “Additional
Help” section for the remaining time
• If your child spends more than 30 mins on the worksheet, have them stop and write a note on the homework
o We will review the homework in class

Science/Social Studies:
• Occasional take-home assignments
• Study from notebooks each night
o Make flash cards for key terms
o Tell a family member what they learned that day
o Watch additional videos here

Missing/Late Work:
• Late homework must be turned in by the Friday of the week it was assigned
o If turned in after that, it will only receive half-credit
o Late work will be notated in PS with “Late”
• Missing work will receive a zero in PS (indicated by an orange M)
• Students (not parents) must talk to teachers about making up missing work, late work, or work they missed because
of absence from class
• Late work will not be accepted past the end of the quarter
