Brief Introduction

Good automotive tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, wrenches,

electric drill, C- clamp, hacksaw, and equipment like welding machine, grinder, and

many more can be quite an investment, but if you take good care of them, they will

return the favor and make your endeavor that much more rewarding.

Tools and equipment maintenance must be coupled by the maintenance also of

the working area to upkeep all the tools, equipment, and other properties inside the

shop or within the working area.

maintenance in accordance with OHS [ Occupational Health

and Safety] procedures.

Learning Objectives: The learner shall be able to:

c.1 Inspect and clean tools, equipment, and the working area to

ensure that they are free from dust, grease and other

substances.

c.2 Observe cleaning solvent used as per workshop cleaning

requirements.

Cleaning- is the removal of all visible soil in an approved way with the use of

mechanical and chemical action or both.

Maintenance- is the upkeep of tools, equipment and work area to an exacting standard

so that all areas look consistently new and organized.

An organized clean shop or working area encourages and promotes a positive

working atmosphere, increase efficiency, fewer accidents, reduces risks like slips and

falls, avoid penalties or fines related to violation of regulations in the compliance with

the OSHA [ Occupational Safety and Health Administration] with regards to the safety

and well- being of the worker or anyone working in that particular shop or area.

Along with this, maintenance of tools and equipment is also required since they

are the livelihood of our business which is automotive servicing. As we all know tools

are made for use. Its lifecycle must be used to its maximum effectiveness. It is

designed to give its purpose so that works become easy and efficient.
