Quarter 0 – Module 2
Selecting Measuring Equipment
What I Need to Know
To promote lifelong skilled learners, this module covers one of the courses offered in
Industrial Arts- Metal Works with emphasis on Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).
This module is an exploratory subject written and designed for Grade 7 and Grade 8
learner. This will help you identify your prior knowledge, test your understanding,
and learn new concepts that may be used to do self-evaluation afterwards. Aside
from that, this module is made possible for your convenience where the language
being used is the same with the vocabulary level of the students. You, as a learner,
will be given the understanding on how to select the exact measuring instruments in
a task. To follow the standard sequence of the course, all lessons were properly
arranged.

Lesson
Selecting Measuring
1 Equipment
Measuring tools are important for determining dimensions of any given object.
Accurate measurement is the basis of good engineering and crafting practice. The
accuracy of any measuring device depends on the user as much as on the design of
the tool.
Measuring is not only checking the length, width or thickness of an objects but also
checking of the shape – things like the flatness, straightness, roundness, or
squareness. Measuring tools are also used for inspecting a finished or partly finished
product.
All measuring tools are precision tools. You must take good care of them to
keep them in good shape to maintain accuracy.

Notes to the Teacher
Always remind learners to observe safety precautions when doing
an actual task. And that they may asked assistance from their
parents/guardians while performing the tasks to observe safety
and/or to prevent accident. You may also make/create your own
activities parallel to the lesson.
What’s New
Direction: Select your own measuring tools and measure the following
objects/dimensions. Write your answers in your notebook.
4
What is It
5
4. Caliper – used for measuring diameter.
6
8. Compass – used for scribing arcs and circles.
A. DO’S
B. DON’T’S
1. Do not wipe off edges of the steel tape of pull-push rule with bare hands to
avoid injury.
2. Do not pull the steel tape of pull-push rule too much to avoid the coil spring
from damage.
3. Do not use the caliper as tongs.

What I Can Do
Directions: Measure the length of 10 objects found in your home using any
measuring tools available. Follow the table below. You can select your own unit of
measurement. Write your answers in your notebook.
NOTE: Always be reminded to observe safety precautions when doing an actual task.
This task must be performed with the presence of your parent(s) or guardian(s) to
observe safety and/or to prevent accident.
