The Activities Manual to accompany ¡Claro que sí!, Fourth Edition, consists of three parts:
• Workbook Activities
The Workbook activities are designed to reinforce the chapter material and to help develop your writing
skills. Each chapter in the Workbook, with the exception of the preliminary chapter, contains four parts:
• Práctica mecánica I: Contains mechanical drills to reinforce and practice the vocabulary and
grammar presented in the first part of the textbook chapter. You should do this section after
studying the first grammar explanation.
• Práctica comunicativa I: Contains open-ended activities that allow you to use the concepts
learned in the first part of the chapter. Many of the activities will focus on more than one concept.
Do this section after having completed the activities in the first Hacia la comunicación section.
• Práctica mecánica II: Contains mechanical drills to reinforce and practice the vocabulary and
grammar presented in the second part of the textbook chapter. You should do this section after
studying the second grammar explanation.
• Práctica comunicativa II: Integrates all vocabulary, grammar, and functions presented in the
chapter and allows you to express yourself in meaningful and more open-ended contexts. You
should do this section after having completed Hacia la comunicación II, and before any exams or
quizzes.
The Repaso sections after odd numbered chapters will help you review some key concepts.
You will find the answers to the Workbook activities at the end of the Activities Manual.
• Before doing the exercises, study the corresponding vocabulary and grammar sections in the
textbook.
• Write what you have learned. Be creative, but not overly so. Try not to overstep your linguistic
boundaries.
vii
Check your answers against the answer key, marking all incorrect answers in a different color ink.
Check any wrong answers against the grammar explanations and vocabulary lists in the textbook.
Make notes to yourself in the margins to use as study aids.
If you feel you need additional work with particular portions of the chapter, do the corresponding
exercises in the Computer Study Modules.
Lab Manual
The activities in the Lab Manual aredesigned to help improve your pronunciation and listening skills.
Each chapter contains three parts:
• The audio CD for each chapter tape ends with the corresponding conversations from the text, so
that you can listen to them outside of class.
Here are some tips to follow when doing the Lab Manual activities:
• While doing the pronunciation exercises listen carefully, repeat accurately, and speak up.
• Read all directions and items before doing the listening comprehension activities.
• Pay specific attention to the setting and type of spoken language (for example, an announcement
in a store, a radio newscast, a conversation between two students about exams, and so forth).
• Do not be concerned with understanding every word; your goal should be to do the task that is
asked of you in the activity.
• Listen to the recordings again after correction to hear what you missed.
Conclusion
Through conscientious use of the Workbook and Lab Manual you should make good progress in your
study of the Spanish language. Should you need additional practice, do the Computer Study Modules.
This computer program (for Mac or IBM and compatibles) is an excellent review tool for quizzes and
exams.
