Homework Problems from Required Text 9th Edition

3-25 Complete the following table for H2O

3-28 A 1.8 m3 rigid tank contains steam at 220oC. One-third of the volume is in the liquid phase and the
rest is in the vapor form. Determine (a) the pressure of the steam, (b) the quality of the saturated
mixture, and (c) the density of the mixture.

3-42 10 kg of R-134a at 300 kPa fills a rigid container whose volume is 14L. Determine the temperature
and total enthalpy in the container. The container is now heated until the pressure is 600 kPa.
Determine the temperature and total enthalpy when the heating is completed.
3-53E A 5 ft3 rigid tank contains a saturated mixture of refrigerant 134a at 50 psi. If the saturated liquid
occupies 20 percent of the volume, determine the quality and the total mass of the refrigerant in the
tank.

3-75 A 1 m3 tank containing air at 10oC and 350 kPa is connected through a valve to another tank
containing 3 kg of air at 35oC and 150 kPa. Now the valve is opened, and the entire system is allowed to
reach thermal equilibrium with the surroundings, which are at 20oC. Determine the volume of the
second tank and the final equilibrium pressure of air.

3-90E Ethane in a rigid vessel is to be heated from 50 psia and 100oF until its temperature is 540oF.
What is the final pressure of the ethane as predicted by the compressibility chart?
