Petrel File Management

When a project is created in Petrel and Save project as… is selected, three
files are automatically generated on a specific location that you choose.

A Petrel simulation project


structure consists of 3 files:

Petrel Project

project_name.pet

project_name.ptd

project_name.sim
Petrel File Management
When you are opening an existing project,
you need to select the project_name.pet
to open the project.

The .pet file contains the index


of all data in your project.

IMPORTANT: When making a backup or sending your project to


support, you must include all the associated files, not just the .pet
file. The .pet file contains only the index, none of the data!

The .sim folder contains a sub- Each Simulation case folder

Export simulation keywords
1. Open the Define simulation
case process.

2. Select Edit existing and


select the desired case.

3. Click the Export button. This will will be checked before the
export but not run the simulation. keywords are exported.

A shortcut for exporting simulation keywords


is to right-click the simulation case in the
Cases pane and select between Simulation
export only or Simulation export and run.
