ASSIGNMENT 1.a
Shashwat Anant
Answer the following review questions from Hinze textbook:
Chapter 1:
1. Describe the disadvantages of scheduling a project with the use of bar charts.

Ans: Bar charts, Following are the Major Limitations and Disadvantages:
i. For the job logic, it’s difficult to maintain the precision as it does not show the job logic and among
this list of activities.
2. The second disadvantage is delayed activities. Requires additional explanation to the people.
3. Explain why the use of bar charts is popular in the construction industry.
Ans: The bar charts help in explaining the Scheduling the information accurately whereas the schedule
network requires substantial knowledge to understand, the bar chart is easy to understand including
construction workers and architects etc.
Why is it often common to use bar charts and precedence diagrams to depict schedules on the same
construction project?
Ans: Bar charts is a very good way to communicates as helps to schedule more efficiently. Most of the
Project is not exactly on same timeline as originally prepared. Precedence Diagram and scheduling
software such as MS Project and Primavera P6. Therefore, the toggle between the use of bar charts and
precedence diagram.
What is the difference between planning and scheduling?
Ans: Planning is basically the resolve of what tasks must be completed. Schedules provide a Timeline in which
the tasks or actions are to take place. Planning can be understood to be similar to a list of activities that must
be performed, like to a “to do” list. Scheduling would entail of putting those “to do” items on a calendar.
4. Compare bar charts and precedence diagrams in terms of the ease with which activities can be added to
the schedule.
Ans: It is only on the compound schedules that this issue is a concern. Example is if a schedule consists of
100 activities, it would be tough to add an activity to a bar chart and still accurately antedate the impact of
the change on the whole schedule. With the help of a precedence diagram, the addition of an activity is a
moderately simple matter. Each activity must usually have at least one predecessor and at least one
successor. With the precedence diagram, the logic is more willingly seeming and integrating a new activity
is a simple matter.
Chapter 16:
4. Draw an arrow diagram for each of the following activities. Draw all arrows in a left-to-right direction.
Assume the data will be computer-input in standard i–j notation. Show all necessary dummies, but do not
include any redundant dummies. The activities and their dependencies are as follows:
