Maxwell
Assignment
Maxwell’s 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership (Laws 1-3)
After reading these three laws, pick one example per law from your personal experience or from
recent business, political, or sports news (i.e. Company, CEO, Writer, Athlete, etc).
Write a paragraph to explain your thinking and include website references or links to support
your response. An example would be the McDonald’s brothers and Ray Kroc story from Chapter 1.
This was used to help understand how the “Law of the Lid” could apply. (Note for the purposes of
this assignment you should not use the same examples cited by Maxwell in his text).

Maxwell’s Law’s 1 to 3
In Maxwell’s first chapter he explains the law of the lid, which is when people often “self-impose”
limits on their leadership capability. This then acts as a “lid” that determines their level of
effectiveness. It can be seen as though someone’s leadership skill is seen as a lid or a ceiling for their
organization, and therefore the organization could not rise above your level of leadership. An
example of this is would be Jack Welch former chairman and CEO of General Electric, he became
the youngest to ever hold that position, and during his tenure as GE’s CEO the company’s value rose
400% and became a leader in their field. (Continue the rest of Maxwell reflections#1 for Law’s 2
and 3 )
