Importance of a college degree

Currently, large number of students do not take admission in colleges universities after their

High school graduation. A recent research says that more than 70% people in US do not go to

higher education institutions because of the higher tuition fees. It has also become an established

myth that the fate in higher education is declining day by day. Although people do not like to

spend the money in education, the cost and the time of college graduation worth it.

The first reason is a good college certificate ensures a healthy job. Unlike many develop

countries, countries in South Asia South America do not have enough qualified education

institutes that causes less number of qualified graduates every year. MARK A. HECKLER said

in an atcle on Chicago Tribune “Beyond wage earnings, college graduates also receive increased

employer-provided fringe benefits such as health insurance and retirement plans that result in

better health and longer life expectancy.” That is why many of the students from this countries

go abroad to take foreign degr9 to secure an upper class job. Additionally, of most of the

colleges ensure that there graduates are qualified enough to compete in job field rather than

research works.

University level degree is also important to be valued in the society. Nowadays, people judge a

stranger or an unknown person based on his or her academic quality at first meeting. For

example if a person is a graduate from an army college, we can easily predict that the person

owns physical fitness having good IQ. Similarly, we assume that engineers are good in math. It

is tough for a person to let people know about their quality when he or she does not have a

certificate on a specific area of study from a well-recognized institution.

It is not always true that a college level degree is essential to be successful in life. Billionaire

entrepreneurs like Bill gates, Jack Ma, Mark Zuckerberg - they are all college dropouts. The fact

is that not every dropout student is Bill gates or Jack Ma. People has to be prepared for the worst

in every moment of life. That is why higher education certificate works just a bolster to face

those worse times. Furthermore, having a healthy certificate, a percent does not need to face that

much harder compared to the higher school graduates in terms of building the career. a report of

labor statistics says that "in 2013, those with high school degrees had an unemployment rate of

7.5 percent, in contrast to those with bachelor’s degrees, with an unemployment rate of 4

percent" (BLS).

Another reason of college increase being vote the cost and its time is that it supports during

tough economic time. People go to college to pursue career, but also an education. It secures the

level we belong in and our life standard. In many countries, the price of a car and the cost of

higher education is almost same. After all that, people who have the ability to pay at least the

fees, choose to pursue that certificate. In many unpleasant situations like the time of financial

crisis in 2008, 3 million people became jobless and most of them where front line employees are

managers, as most off the frontline employees do not have a good college or university

certificate. “While a college degree can certainly provide a student with specialized training in a

particular field and higher income potential over a lifetime, what cannot be overlooked are the

intangible skills that a college degree instills in its students” (HECKLER).

There are many alternatives of pursuing College degree. These alternatives depend on the

opportunities of those particular countries or cities. In under developed countries, youths can

come together and take responsibilities some social works like teaching farmers about

fertilization, teaching rural people about the sanitization and necessity of allopathic treatment.
According to Anna Helhoski and Teddy Nykiel, “You can also enlist in the military, start a

business or, to gain experience and earn money while learning what you enjoy and are good at,

get an entry-level job.” In developing countries like India, a high school graduate student can

train others about computer works like graphics design, sound-video editing etc.

Education in college can be costly but the value it provides is huge. To explain, it helps people to

get a good job, to be valued in society and having an opportunity cost in the crisis moment.

Being a specialist in a specific area of education, gives confidence to be able to think, understand

and realize something in a different way.
