Describe with an example what do you mean by an Enterprise Application. What are the challenges
that enterprise applications pose, and how are enterprise applications taking advantage of new
technologies?

Answer
In todays would business process is becoming mor complex. To make the business more efficient
now a day’s organizations developed new specialized departments. for example, earlier
production, distribution, supply chain management, quality control all such works were maintained
by only one department. But now each activity are falls under different departments and have their
own autocratical hierarchy. With the advancement of the technology, the specialist has come up
with Enterprise applications to maintain today’s complex business process in the most time
effective and easiest way.
Enterprise application also known as Enterprise Resource System or ERP is a software solution
system that provides tools and information’s to Model Entire business process for organizations to
improve productivity and business efficiency. Enterprise Application is a combination of different
software’s module to provide solutions to each department of an organization. An Enterprise
Application is one that can be used through the organization to run multiple departments and
business process. However, all the data and software’s in an ERP system are controlled by one
single central database. It helps to monitor the activities of an entire organization within minutes.
However, ERP system also helps to create a much stronger network among the different
departments of the company. An Enterprise Application is one that can be used through the
organization to run multiple departments and business process. The system collects data from
every divisions of the firm which are useable in firms every internal operation. According to the
American Production and Inventory Control Society ERP is defined as a method for the effective
planning and controlling of all resources needed to take make ship and account for customers
orders in a manufacturing distribution and service organization. This allows organizations to store
data of every departments in a central location which is accessible by all the departments of the
organizations. this central data needs to be updated by the departments accordingly.
A typical business process includes different departments. For example, a client approaches to the
store to buy a particular product. sales teem need to check the inventory if the product is available
or not. If the product is not available, inventory manager notifies to the production team,
production team search for the availability of the raw materials of the products. if the raw materials
are out of stock, they contact with the supplier to supply the raw materials. After receiving the raw
material production planning team send it to the floor supervisor for production. In the meantime,
of there is any shortage of product supervisor need to notify it to HR. after solving all the activities
step by step, finally the product has been produced and deliver it to the customers. however, the
sales and production team need to report to the finance team about the revenue generated and cost
incurred.
Enterprise Application made this entire complex process in a small integrated cycle. IF ERP is
there, whenever any client approach to any sales person for the availability of the product, the
sales team can check the central data and say whether .the product is available , if not by when the
product could be restoked. However the sales team can updated the central data about the demand
of the product, the real time data of inventory can show whether it is available or need to be
restocked, the production team can get idea about how much to produce and provide orders to
supplier accordingly. Moreover, the real time data from the production supervisor about the work
in progress and finish products the sales team can say by when the product can be restoked.
However, from the central database the finance team can know how many products have been
sold, revenue generated, and the cost incurred. With the help of ERP all this activity can take place
at a time.
However, implementation of enterprise application can pose some challenges. Organization at first
need to identify which business process need to be centralized. Failing to select the exact
departments and process for centralization can cause less to no productivity of the system. The
cost of installing a ERP system is really high not only in terms of money but also time. However,
it requires huge data transformation as well. If the process is not well maintained there is a scope
of data loss as well. Moreover, organizations need to make its employees well aware about the
system otherwise it will be of know use. Extensive training needs to be provided to the employees
which also increases cost of the organizations. Sometimes it becomes difficult for employees to
get used to with the system. No matter how good the system is, some employees don’t like to
accept the change and want to go with the traditional system. However, in ERP system data needs
to input accurately as there is no option to rectify.
In todays world of advances technology, Enterprise solution systems are becoming more important
and the usability of the system is increased a lot. As people have access to internet from around
the world, with the help of ERP system they can make business no matter where he or she is.
Infrastructure is the backbone of enterprise solution system. Now a days with advancement of
increased information technologies and infrastructural developments, newer and newer enterprise
applications are coming with advances features. Cloude computing, Artificial Intelligence, Big
Data, Blockchain all such technologies has made todays ERP system more attractive and
developed. Cloud computing allows employees to access the system from any device from any
remote location. Recent advancements in AI and machine learning have transformed the
manufacturing industry. The efficiency enhancements forged by AI will have far-reaching and
long-lasting effects. Yet automation and business insights are just the beginning. As the technology
matures and becomes more universal in application, small manufacturers will experience a
drastically smarter supply chain that can-do wonders for a bottom line. Now people rely on
information’s for any kind of decision. Thousands of data’s can be viewed within hours which
facilitates decision making process. You likely know blockchain by its most common application:
cryptocurrency. But its relevance to manufacturers extends far beyond bitcoin. The technology
records data across multiple locations, linking a string of timestamped and irreversible “blocks.”
Because changes to the data are permanent and visible across networks, blockchain technology
produces a single verifiable record that all participants can reference simultaneously.
Manufacturers who implement blockchain into their ERP operations can create a dependable and
detailed audit trail for materials, which in turn increases the reliability and security of your supply
chain.
The development of business world and technology is a simultaneous process. Whenever the
technology develops, the business process develops. At the same time technologies are being
developed for doing business. Enterprise Application is also a tremendous projection of business
as well as technological advancement
