TRIGONOMETRY
MY UNIT OBJECTIVES: I WILL KNOW AND BE ABLE TO
Learning Goal 1 2 3 4

1. I can sketch an angle in standard position, given the measure of an

angle and label the following: x-axis, y-axis, terminal arm, initial arm (I can
also identify what quadrant an angle terminates in)

2. I
can determine the reference angle for an angle in standard position
and explain how to determine angles from to that have the same reference
angle as a given angle.

3. I can illustrate that any angle from to is the reflection in the x-axis

and/or y-axis of its reference angle. I can also show that P(x, y), P(-x, y), P(-x,
-y) and P(x, -y) are points on the terminal sides of angles in standard position
that have the same reference angle.

4. I can determine the value of sinθ, cosθ or tanθ, given any point P(x, y)

on the terminal arm of angle θ. I can determine the sign of a given

trigonometric ratio for a given angle, without the use of technology.

5. I can determine, without the use of technology, the value of the

primary trig ratios for each quadrantal angle from to .

6. I can solve, for all values of θ, an equation of the form sinθ = a, cosθ =
a where , and an equation in the form sinθ = a where a is a real number.

7. I can determine, without the use of technology, the exact value of the
sine, cosine or tangent of a given angle with a reference angle of .
8. I can determine coterminal angles for any given angle.

9. I can convert an angle from degrees to radian measure and vice versa.

10. I can sketch a diagram to represent a problem, both for right angle
triangles and triangles without a right angle.

11. I can explain the steps in a given proof of the sine law or cosine law.

12. I can sketch a diagram and solve a problem using the sine law and the
cosine law; I can also determine cases where a problem may have no solution,
one solution or two solutions.

MY UNIT OBJECTIVES: I WILL KNOW AND BE ABLE TO

Lesson # Criteria 1 2 3 4

I can compare and contrast number systems

from various cultures.

I can analyze, classify, and order numbers

within the real number system, and represent
the relationship among the subsets of the real
numbers (natural, whole, integer, rational,
irrational), and sort numbers among these
subsets.

I can determine an approximate value of a

given irrational number and location on a
number line, using a variety of strategies. I
can order a set of irrational numbers.

I can describe the components of a radical and

explain the meaning of the index of a radical.

I can express a radical as a mixed radical in

simplest form, and express a mixed radical as
an entire radical (where the radicand is a
number or variable).

I can simplify radical expressions by applying

one or more operations (addition, subtraction,
multiplication, division).

I can solve radical equations.

I can explain why , and can convert between

radicals and powers with rational exponents.

I can apply the exponent laws to expressions

and explain my reasoning (including rational
and variable bases, and rational exponents).

I can apply the exponent laws and radicals to

solve problems.
