10 Hand Spa
Ms. Janeth J. Pagcas - Subject Teacher
Hand spa treatment is recommended to those who expose their hands to too much work throughout
the day for it helps replenish, restore, and rejuvenate naturally tired hands. Includes a long soak that
eases the pain and numbness and loosens dead skin cells of the hands. Hand spa treatment is done by
a professional therapist in different spa centers.
A hand spa treatment comes with a hand massage to achieve a relaxing feeling. But it becomes more
beneficial when the massage strokes are directed to the heart. It gives relaxation to the exhausted
well-being. Remember that the hands should be taken care of because they are the most exposed to
toxins.
BENEFITS OF HAND MASSAGE
1. It makes one relax
2. It moisturizes the skin with hand cream and/or paraffin wax.
3. It increases blood circulation.
4. It keeps range of movements in the joint.
5. It eases discomfort from arthritis or rheumatism.
6. It helps remove dead skin cells.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF PARAFFIN WAX TREATMENT
Paraffin wax is the waxy substance especially used in making candles. As with the origin of the spa,
paraffin wax treatment can also be traced back to the Roman Empire. During that time, the Romans
poured hot wax on their bodies to prepare for massage therapy. Later on, the French started applying
paraffin wax to wounds to advance healing. By World War I, paraffin wax was used by the British to
treat orthopedic disorders in military hospitals. In the 1950s, it was used by doctors of patients with
arthritis. As years went by, paraffin application became a separate service. The service is a simple
process where the client’s hands or feet are soaked in bags filled with melted wax. Eventually, paraffin
baths have also evolved, adapting to different settings and becoming more automated.
