Why I Want To Become A Teacher

As a young student back in the late ’80s and early 90’s, I wanted to become a

teacher and go to college after High School. However, with my love-hate of school, I

went in another direction with my life. I started out with Cosmetology school for nails

and got my licenses but never did nail. I continued waiting tables in a California

restaurant till 1995 when I got married and move to another city. From there I had my

first child in 1996 and then moved to Nevada in 1997. Found a job in a childcare facility

that I loved, working with 18 months to two-year-olds. I just loved going into work daily

to see their little faces and the excitement for what a new day brings.

Then the late summer of 1998 my second child came then another in 2001 and I

decided to stay home with my children for many years and working off-on for a couple of

those years in customer service jobs. By my late 30’s I decided to go to school to

become a medical assistant and got my certification just before my 40th birthday.

Knowing I liked child that’s where I was going to put my effort into finding a career,

however that didn’t work out as I started working for a chiropractor doing billing for the

office for a year. Then I was offered a great position at my daughter’s school being the

FASA (First Aid Saftey Assistant) running the Health Office for grades 6th-12th, for four

years before going to college for the first time at the age of 45. I started with a different

major in mind and did that for 1 ½ semester before changing to Early Education.
I want to become an Early Education Teacher because I love the energy of

young children and want to make a difference in their life. I want to be able to match

their energy and enthusiasm int the classroom. These students are our future and I

would be honored to help shape and mold them into intelligent young people of society.

I want to bring excitement and new ideas to the young minds of the students. I want to

offer my knowledge, excitement, and experience in the classroom. I want to teach the

students to find their love for reading and connecting with many adventures they could

have with reading a book. I want to have a classroom that we could love and have

compassion for one another from all cultures and diversities.
