CORE CONTENTS
Different Kinds of Lines

Pre-writing skills are the fundamental skills children need to develop

before they are able to write. These skills contribute to the child’s ability to
hold and use a pencil, and the ability to draw, write, copy, and color. A major
component of pre-writing skills are the pre-writing shapes. These are the
pencil strokes that most letters, numbers and early drawings are comprised of.
They are typically mastered in sequential order, and to an age specific level.
These strokes include the following strokes:
scribbling (free hand) – is the first step in learning how to write. It may not
make sense to an adult, but these marks are cery important to ayoung child.
There scribbles include lines, hoops, and squiggles. They are the child’s way
of writing his thoughts.

straight lines – these include vertical and horizontal lines. A vertical line is a
line in a standing position. You draw it from the top going down. While a
horizontal line is a line in lying position. You draw it from left to right.

slanting lines – this line is a slopping line. There are two kinds o slants: left
slants and right slants.

curves – these are lines that are bent and has no straight parts. There are
many kinds of curved lines—right curve, left curve, over curve and under
curve.
Here are some points to remember in proper writing:
