Austin Pietro. A. Renacia B.

S PSYCHOLGY II

OFW INTERVIEW

Interviewee: Marco Paolo A. Renacia

Relationship with the Interviewer: Brother/ Sibling
Current Occupation: Nurse
Country: Ireland
My interviewee experienced an intercontinental migration
since he moved from the Philippines that is part of Asia to
Ireland which is part of Europe.

The interview was taken on April 29, 2020 around 4:30pm-5:30pm. (The screenshot of my face time in messenger does not
really show the date and the time of when it’s happening so I did again a screenshot of my photo gallery to show when the
screenshot was really taken.)

The Interview

1st Question: What are the push factors or pull factors that leads you to leaving your community
and go abroad or migrate to other places?

Answer: First of all, it was my dream to live independently in a foreign country. The
opportunity of working here made that dream come to a reality. Secondly, this is my chance to
repay our parents for all the sacrifices that they have given to us. Lastly, financially speaking,
another pull factor in working here is that I get paid way more than I could get when I work in
the Philippines. Honestly, I don’t really find it a burden working here and being away from my
family just to earn more money. In fact, this is always what I wanted and this life brings out the
best of me and that is all that matters.

2nd Question: What changes occurred with your family due to migration?
Answer: As a fresh graduate who immediately went abroad, I could say that these kind of stuff
is relatively new for them. Leaving them for work was the the hardest part for me and probably
for them. However, as time went by and we got used to it already, things have been smoother
since then. I was able to save money and helped dad with finances back at home. My parents no
longer need to think a lot about my financial stability since I can already sustain myself. I have

also bought clothes and things for my them and I could see that they are happy for it. The
number one change that is constant is the fact that we miss one another.

Another proofs of the interview. I asked the interviewee to send his answers in
messenger so the answers could be more vivid.
