1. Which is more powerful, is it human or computer? Why?

As an engineering student that deals with computer more often, and as a computer
literature person, I can say that in this present era, humans are still more powerful than
computers. A lot of people can argue that some advanced computers are better in some ways
compared to humans. For example, computers can run different arithmetic operations all at the
same time and will surely get an accurate answer within seconds unlike a normal person that will
even need a calculator. The time you got a hold of a calculator, I’m quite sure that the computer
have already done the job for you. Even though computers are good in operations, storing
information and don’t get tired of doing tasks, humans are still more powerful than them. There
are three (3) main reason for this. The first is because computers do not create nor design itself.
Human intervention is a must in order to create or run a computer. Another reason is that
computers are not capable of emotions. It will continue to work different tasks until it reaches its
limit. It has no regard for itself. It is incapable of expressing itself or to identify its user’s
feelings. And the last reason, computers do not have the 5 basic senses which humans possess. It
may have cameras, and audio speaker/recorder serving as eyes and mouth/ears respectively but it
does not have the ability to smell, touch nor taste.

2. What is the role of the computer in the data processing cycle?

Basically, data processing as the term suggests is the processing or manipulation of data by a
computer. This is the main role of the computer in the data processing cycle wherein the input
will be undergoing operations by the proper processing method/s. After which, the input will be
in its usable form. The computer is still involved in the input, output and storage phases of the
data processing cycle.

3. What are some trends in the development of computers?

Through the constant development of computers, different trends and areas of
applications are also emerging. These includes graphics, commerce, energy, transportation,
paperwork, money, government, education, science, health and medicine, robotics among others.
It is also became a tool for entertainment wherein different platforms such as games can be
enjoyed.

4. Discuss the effects of ICT in your life (e.g. at home, in the workplace). Cite two concrete
examples and elaborate.
Generally, information and communication technology (ICT) have advantageous effects.
Two concrete examples of these effects are faster and easier process for doing tasks. First is that
ICT make things faster such as getting information needed for an assignment. For sure, the
Internet can give a lot of information right away. Another is that ICT make things easier, one can
communicate in the real time even though they are so far away from each other.
