1. What is the main delivery of this course?

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, mass gatherings are prohibited, and teachers are not allowed to
conduct their usual face-to-face Learning Action Cell (LAC) session and seminars. This course is mainly
delivered through distance learning. Teachers will finish this course at the comforts of their own
respective home. To make this course interactive, the instructional coaches, LAC facilitator and members
share lesson, insights and reflections through virtual meetings via Zoom and Google Meet.

How can this course help ensure that you will be able to deliver quality instruction in the “new normal”?

Upon successfully completing the course, teachers will be fully equipped with the updated
knowledge and skills essential to the new normal in education. This course will help me in adapting to the
new norm in education here in the Philippines. The concepts in principles in this course will enable me to
make better decisions in planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating classroom instruction. This
course will greatly help me in selecting what modality to use based on the needs and resources available
to the students.

3. What are the two support mechanisms that will help you with your learning in this course?

The main support mechanism of this course is the task-oriented self-learning modules. Each
module includes readings, video tutorials, quizzes, and reflections. There is also a study notebook for
jotting down notes, answers on quizzes, and reflections. The second support mechanism is the
instructional coach who will provide guidance and support to the activities and LAC sessions. The two
support mechanisms ensure that teachers will grasp the concepts and internalize the essence of the course.

Since I am currently studying, this will influence my participation in this course positively. I will

After hearing the answers of my colleagues, I realized that module 1 is a great avenue to orient
teachers about the course. It allows teachers to reflect on their personal experiences to answer the
questions in the activities. Teachers have different habits, obstacles, motivations, and environment but

ACTIVITY 1.

Begin by refreshing your memory on the Learning Action Cell. Read DepEd Order No. 35 s. 2016 titled
“The Learning Action Cell as the K to 12 Basic Education Program School Based Continuing
Professional Development Strategy for the Improvement of Teaching and Learning.” Once you’re done,
answer the following questions. Write your responses and any other ideas and reflections in your Study
Notebook. 1. Reflect on the objectives for conducting LAC sessions as listed in DO 35, s. 2016.

Rank the following objectives from easiest to the most difficult to achieve:

2. What are the top three challenges to having a successful LAC? List down and elaborate.

LAC sessions in this time of pandemic are mostly done through virtual meetings and webinars.
One of the challenges in having a successful LAC is the internet connection and specifications of required
technology. Excellent internet connection allows the smooth flow of the program and conversation of the
participants. Technologies with good specifications allow the members to view audio and video with

clarity. Another is distractions and time-management, since most of us are working at home, our attention
is divided with the different chores at home and the task from the school. There are moments that there
are too many tasks to be accomplished in a very short period. Lastly, staying motivated. Teachers’ mental
health is affected by this pandemic. It affects the way we think and our attention span becomes shorter.

ACTIVITY 2. According to DO 35, s. 2016, a LAC should have no less than 2 but not more than 15
members each. Get in touch with your designated Coach or LAC Leader in forming your LACs.

1. Agree on a date and time to meet and discuss forming your LACs. Follow LAC Session 1 Guide
for the conduct of your LAC.

3. During this meeting, decide on your groupings and designate one LAC Facilitator and one LAC
Leader per LAC.

4. Note the following in forming your LACs:

 LACs should be composed of teachers. Discuss your preferred LAC composition with your
assigned Instructional Coach (this will be a district or division supervisor assigned to your LAC).
 After forming your respective LACs, there should a LAC Leader assigned to you from among the
following school members: » Master Teacher » Head Teacher/Department Head » Other senior
teachers who have proven competence, potential to lead, or subject expertise to lead the LAC.
 Teacher LACs can connect with their Instructional Coach through the LAC Leader. This
Instructional Coach will also be handling multiple LACs through a network of LAC Leaders.
