Learning Delivery Modalities Course for Teachers (LDM 2)

MODULE 1: COURSE ORIENTATION

Name: MICHELLE S. GATCHALIAN

School: SAN ISIDRO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Date Accomplished: September 1, 2020

LESSON 1: COURSE OVERVIEW

ACTIVITY 1

Read the LDM Course Overview. Reflect on the overview by answering the following questions. Write
down your insights in your Study Notebook.

1. What is the main delivery of this course?

The main delivery of this course is through the use of self-learning modules provided by the
Department of Education (DepEd) in cooperation of National Educators Academy of the
Philippines (NEAP). Aside from the modules provided, LAC sessions on schools are also
encouraged to discuss and collaborate ideas for meaningful learning. Usually, the facilitators of
LAC sessions are master teachers, head teachers, and school heads.

2. How can this course help ensure that you will be able to deliver quality instruction in the “new
normal”?

This course will serve as a guide for us teachers to plan, organize, deliver, and evaluate.
Plan – The mode of teaching nowadays is not the usual thing that we do at school. Our task is to
carefully plan and think of ways on how to support learning during these times of pandemic. It is
a big adjustment to each and everyone but education must not stop. Planning of lessons,
activities, and assessments must be done ahead of time.
Organize – Teachers are one of the resourceful professionals in this world. They do not only plan
what to teach among the students but they also organize their thoughts and ideas to prevent
confusion during the delivery of their lessons.
Deliver – During these times of pandemic, teachers are given several ways on how to cascade
learning to their students because face-to-face learning was highly discouraged. With this,
distance learning, blended learning, and homeschooling will be the learning delivery modalities
(LDM) of the new normal in education. It is the duties and responsibilities of the teachers to
adapt to these changes so that no students will be left behind.
Evaluate – After implementing these modes of learning, teachers should be open to feedback
among students, parents, guardians. It is very important to consider this feedback for it will help
teachers to think of other ways on how to further improve the delivery of instruction.

3. What are the two support mechanisms that will help you with your learning in this course?

Moral support among co-workers. Working in these times of pandemic will become
easier when you know that there are people that you can count on. It is not bad to ask for
assistance from those people whom you think knows it better than you. Attending professional
development. Teachers were encouraged to attend webinars/online seminars so that they

would be enlightened on the process of teaching and learning in this new normal in education.
With this, teachers are expected to put into reality the learning they gained from attending such
webinars/online seminars.

ACTIVITY 2.

Answer the following questions by copying and filling out the table in your Study Notebook.

1. How will my personal characteristics and circumstances affect (positively or negatively) my

participation in this course?

Being adaptive and resilient to change is one of my characteristics as a teacher. I know

that the initial phase of every task is difficult and challenging but if you keep on moving forward,
definitely things would work out the way we expect them to be. Trust the process and remain
calm and positive during these times.

2. How can I ensure that I am able to sustain my strengths and address the obstacles that will hinder me
from completing this course?

LESSON 2: ORGANIZING YOUR LEARNING ACTION CELL (LAC)

ACTIVITY 1.

Begin by refreshing your memory on the Learning Action Cell. Read DepEd Order No. 35 s. 2016 titled
“The Learning Action Cell as the K to 12 Basic Education Program School-Based Continuing Professional
Development Strategy for the Improvement of Teaching and Learning.”

Once you’re done, answer the following questions. Write your responses and any other ideas and
reflections in your Study Notebook.

1. Reflect on the objectives for conducting LAC sessions as listed in DO 35, s. 2016.

Rank the following objectives from easiest to the most difficult to achieve:

4 - To improve the teaching-learning process to improve learning among students

3 - To nurture successful teachers

2 - To enable teachers to support each other to continuously improve their content and
pedagogical knowledge, practice, skills, and attitudes

1 - To foster a professional collaborative spirit among School Heads, teachers, and the
community as a whole

2. What are the top three challenges to having a successful LAC? List down and elaborate.

Time. Time is an important matter needed to be considered in conducting LAC sessions.

Teachers’ weekly routine is confined mostly in attending to classes to teach and guide the
students. Teachers are being tasked to prepare their lessons. Likewise, LAC facilitators should
also do the same time. Planning of LAC sessions must be done ahead of time so that teachers
will be given a chance to manage their works inside and outside the classroom.
Collaboration/Team Work. Two heads are better than one. In school, teachers work hand in
hand to address the needs of the students. They extend their time and efforts to provide
learning in the most effective way. Likewise, during LAC sessions, teachers should respect the
opinions of others. When teamwork and collaboration are present, surely every goal and
objectives set will be achieved. After all, the welfare of the students is the main concern of the
teachers.
Budget. Perhaps, this is a common challenge to some schools because most of the time, sessions
like this should be supported by foods and other resources needed. Just like students, teachers
should be fed in order for them to think effectively and listen attentively during the conduct of
LAC sessions.

ACTIVITY 2.

According to DO 35, s. 2016, a LAC should have no less than 2 but not more than 15 members each. Get
in touch with your designated Coach or LAC Leader in forming your LACs.

MODULE 1: COURSE ORIENTATION

1. Agree on a date and time to meet and discuss forming your LACs. Follow LAC Session 1 Guide for the
conduct of your LAC.

2. During this meeting, decide on your groupings and designate one LAC Facilitator and one LAC Leader
per LAC.

3. Note the following in forming your LACs:

• LACs should be composed of teachers. Discuss your preferred LAC composition with your
assigned Instructional Coach (this will be a district or division supervisor assigned to your LAC).

• After forming your respective LACs, there should a LAC Leader assigned to you from among
the following school members:

» Master Teacher

» Head Teacher/Department Head

» Other senior teachers who have proven competence, potential to lead, or subject
expertise to lead the LAC.

• Teacher LACs can connect with their Instructional Coach through the LAC Leader. This
Instructional Coach will also be handling multiple LACs through a network of LAC Leaders.
