 Step Back, Man!!!
Step Back, Man!!! started off as a horn feature which I wrote for the Cold Sweat
horns to play without the rhythm section. I’m no longer a member of that band,
but I hear they still perform this piece on occasion. Since then, this tune has
seen several transformations. I’ve written an arrangement of it for brass quintet
(available in the 21 Brass Quintets collection) and made it the second half of a
big band chart I call “Prelude and Funk”. This fourth version of the tune is one
which I’ve been using as the opening tune for my seven piece combo, Living
Rhythms.

Since I use this version of the tune as an opener, there are no solo sections. We
play the tune down and end it…..short and sweet.
 




