HUMAN PURSUIT FOR THE ULTIMATE AND HIGHEST VALUES RELATE TO THE

SPRITUAL NATURE OF MAN

The derive to pursue the highest and ultimate values relate to our spiritual nature as human

beings. The perspective is derived from the book Genesis in the Holy Bible about our origin and

our very constitution as human beings.

Then God said:

“Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule… over all the earth,

and over all the creatures that move along the ground. So God created man in his own image, in

the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1: 26-27).

Macaulay and Barrs (1978)

The spiritual nature of humans: as persons, we are like God. In our human experience,

like God, we relate to everything personally. He is creative, and so are we. We are given

dominion over the earth; this reflects God’s own dominion. We are made for personal

relationships with other human beings and with God. Our calling is; to serve God with our whole

life, to love Him, to enjoy Him, and to reflect His character. Our spiritually is expressed in our

whole life.

Our origin provides us with a direction in life. To be made in the image of God is to be made

after God’s likeness. Doing what is good is the process that brings about the attainment of

personal and basic needs.
