Momentum and Impulse

Momentum and Impulse as vectors. Two equations for impulse, conservation of
momentum, restitution and special cases e=0 and e=1 and link to kinetic energy. (6.1, 6.2,
6.3 pp126-146)
Oblique impact between two bodies. (14.1, 14.2 pp372-388)

circle and subsequent motion).
Hooke’s Law (11.1, 11.2, 11.3, 11.4 pp267-296)

Volumes of revolution about x and y axes (also done in pure), calculus methods for centre
of gravity for volumes of revolution or laminae.
Vectors and Variable Force (split because of link with DEs in pure, completed in LT)
Part 1: Projectile motion on inclined plane, including angle for maximum range.  (9.1, 9.2,
9.3, 9.4 pp185-214)
Continuous Random Variables SR19-32
Part 1: Pdf, cdf, mean, median, variance. E(aX+bY) and Var(ax+bY) when independent.

Continuous Random Variables

Part 2: Normal – X,Y indep normal then aX+bY is N(aµx+ bµy ,a2ơx2+ b2ơy2). Distribution of
sample mean in various cases. Standard error. CLT. Normal probability plots
and interpreting p-values from Kolmogorov –Smirnov Test (not chi squared for normal) (9.1,
9.2, 9.3, 9.4, 9.5 pp222-245)

Inference
Estimation of population mean and variance from sample. Standard error. Confidence

samples using normal or t distributions and interpreting results for other distributions from
software output. (10.1, 10.2 pp246-275)
Hypothesis Tests using normal or t for single mean and Wilcoxon test for median. (But not
paired sample hypothesis test). (11.1, 11.2, 11.3, 11.4 pp276-300)
Simulation
Know that simulation can be used to estimate probabilities and interpret output from
spreadsheet simulations. (Former D1 material may be some use here). (12.1, 12.2, 12.3,
12.4, 12.5 pp301-318)
Vectors and Variable Force (some overlap with DEs in pure)
Part 2: Formulating DEs for motion including a=v dv/dx. Verifying solutions (general and
particular). (9.5 pp214-225)
Oscillations
Recognising the differential equation, knowing and using all forms of the solution for SHM
and off-centre SHM. SHM as projection of circular motion. (12.1, 12.2, 12.3, 12.4, 12.5
