I, Abhinav Kumar, am a 3rd year undergraduate, pursuing a Bachelor of Science (4 years BS) degree

in the Department of Chemistry at IIT Bombay.

During my studies in IIT, I have developed a keen interest in various aspects of computational and
Organic Chemistry. While looking for ongoing research and development in these fields, I came
across University of Minnesota which provides a nice and healthy environment for researchers who
are willing to do research.

I am currently working in the field of Organic Computational Chemistry with Prof. R.B.Sunoj . My

research mainly focuses on obtaining in-depth information on Organocatalysis and Transition metal
Catalysis through Computational Method. I am working on a Coupling reaction of sulphoxides and
Aldehydes. We have come to some good results and are going to release a paper soon.

I have also worked on a project under Prof. Juned Kadiwala (jk555@cam.ac.uk) from University of

Cambridge, whose research focuses on iPSC technology, cell culture, tissue engineering and
molecular biology. My research was mainly on easing up the process of medical emergencies.
Which we are intending to do a trial with patients and hospitals. Also we will be aiming to write
scientific paper on this.

As a part of my curriculum, I have completed courses on Reaction of Carbonyl Compounds,

Structure & Stereochemistry, Introduction to Transition Metal Chemistry and Co-ordination
Chemistry, I have also completed semester courses on Organic, Inorganic and Physical Lab.

I believe that with my strong fundamentals of Organic and Quantum chemistry along with
computational methods, I can contribute to the ongoing research. I would be very grateful if you
could have me as a visiting student during the summer of (11May-1August). The knowledge and
experience that I'll gain from this visit will definitely enhance my theoretical and practical
knowledge.

Since I have time up to April 2020 at hand, If suggested, I can study any further material required. I
assure you that I'll augment the ongoing research with all my efforts and complete dedication.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Regards,

Abhinav Kumar
