Women in politics

As a part of this group of society I decided to write about this topic because in my opinion
women in my country as well as all around the world are always discriminated in every aspect.
Looking back, we could realize that women were not even allowed to be educated and get a
simple job and always were supposed to be underestimated by men. Even though the percentage
of educated women it is lower according to educated men this does not mean that women do not
have the same possibilities and abilities as men but the fault is the circumstances of the past that
leave a scratch in the present. Still we should consider the fact that before being divided by
gender, first of all we are human beings living in the same place and having the same
opportunities.
Leaving the past behind, nowadays this situation is being developed through times and women
cherish their freedom of education, working and contributing to the society but still they are not
enough represented in many fields of society and especially in politics. However, the question is
do women really deserve to be into politics? According to me, in a country where democracy is
always flourishing time by time and a woman who has graduated on this field whether with a
university degree or post university degree, should be able to run into politics. The unequal
representation of women in politics influences every aspect of social, economical and political
development. Why? Because if we consider that 50% of the population are women living all
around the world and on the other hand having a democracy that is not taking into account their
interests and needs then we see that this country is not democratic as it is presented to be. This is
just like when you say “I watched a movie while you actually watched only half of it, then how
you are going to understand the whole of it? Which means that the result will never be fair” The
representation of female politicians differs all over the world while in my country differs a bit
more than that. If we consider our municipalities, from about thirty of them only one is a female
chief representative while others are men; or let’s take the political parties where in my country
all over these years still has not been a female leader of a political party. The issue is that in most
cases they are nominated but never taking a higher position in the parliament.
What do female politicians influence in our society? In this case, the influence goes to all those
women who attend and have aspirations to get into politics, contribute in the society and tell the
world that democracy means equity and equity brings equality. But the most important one is to
tell everyone that women rights are men rights or just like the courageous female politician as
well as nominee for President of the United States of America, Hilary Clinton, said: “ Human
rights are women rights and women rights are human rights”. She also discussed the important
issue when talking about women in general by saying: “ Why extremists always focus on women
remains a mystery to me. But they all seem to. It doesn’t matter what country they are or what
religion they claim. They all want to control women.” This issue has also to do a lot with our
mentality as well and as usually we are a population that really prefers to control women at any
cost. Another argument that women should be included in politics it is claimed by the English
philosopher Ann Philips who says that when dealing with women-related issues such as:
domestic violence, rape, sexual abuse and discrimination, women's poverty, women's diseases,
especially breast cancer as well as other cases in male-dominated political institutions are left
without representation. This is just because women have different interests, needs and
experiences from men and that these interests can only be represented by women, not men and
for this reason there should be equal representation of the two genders in parliament.
Not to mention the fact that even though we are in the 21st century, there are still some countries
in which the percentage of female politicians is tremendously low and even zero percentage
being in a high contrast with the Scandinavian countries who seem to have the highest
percentage of women running into politics.
In brief, all I could say is that as far as this situation won’t take a right turn and hopefully get
better we as women we are should consider the fact that we deserve to be in any place that we
want to be because first of all we are the ones who brought men in this world and without being
men they were just little kids that obeyed any order of us. Women is the future of man and the
improvement of our society. I refer to all those women to be strong and self confident enough to
take the first step in anything they want to try out because maybe that step could be the
beginning of a thousand other steps that are waiting for it. So what makes women deal with
politics? Because they are always right.
