Two main differences exist between the reading approach and the audio-lingual approach.

The first
is that the reading approach is a deductive grammar not concentrate on speaking to teach English, while
on the opposite side, the audio-lingual approach concentrates upon speaking and it is an inductive
grammar approach. And because it is required to speak about differences between these two
approaches, I could mention that the need to establish each approach has affected a lot the way in
teaching. The first is directed for students who don’t need to master their oral skills, whereas the second
is based on behaviorist theory that says the human could be trained and respond correctly if there are
punishments and rewards to master his oral skills.

Neither the first method I am fascinated nor the second. But I must admit and be practical to say I
take the advantages of each way depending on the students needing and teaching's goals and compare
the results, of course with the guidance of teaching ethics. I cannot say that I prefer one method on the
other. Both are important in the teaching, which makes us some times prefer to use the reading
approach way, and at other times use the audio-lingual way.
