THE IDEAL DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY

In August 1962, an anti-apartheid policy, Nelson Mandela was arrested duly by

South African security and brought by further charges including high treason, sabotage,
and scheme to coup the government. As a lawyer and a recognized figure in the realm
of African eradication of economic, civil, political, and human rights by the white
supremacy government.
The statement Mandela’s averred in 1964, created a humongous influence on
the liberty of South Africans, and to the world with racial differences. Bringing into a
mass political organization with a political function to realize, the African National
Congress was formed to protect the rights of African people which have been extremely
trimmed by the South Africa Act. Mandela, in the means of adhering to the by-laws of
ANC, and to the results of copious violence in South Africa, was one of the persons who
formed Umkhonto. An organization created as an intends of fighting violence through
controlling the atmosphere between disputes, and defying the apartheid laws. All of
these were stated by Mandela at the opening of his defense in the 1964 trial.
Fifty-six years have passed already since Mandela’s controversial statement,
the apartheid policies were abolished and intended rights were given to African people.
The speech with 10,000 plus words are technically well-constructed and presented
relevant data in a logical manner. Exhibited through brandishing important data such as
numerous acts of violence that happened in the apartheid scheme government, the
exclusion of Black South Africans to their right to vote, education, and access, any
allegations billed have been juxtaposed with evidence, etc. Nelson Mandela also has
clearly clarified important terms and jargons, and specifically point-by-point every
information presented so that, anyone would understand the purpose he has pointing
definitely.
Moreover, I am completely moved with a quoted statement of the president of
ANC in Mandela’s speech saying, “Who will deny that thirty years of my life have been
spent knocking in vain, patiently, moderately, and modestly at a closed and barred
door...until today we have reached a stage where we have almost no rights at all.” The
apartheid system in South Africa is an allegory of how human beings are more capable
of doing such immeasurable actions. It justifies the cruel fact that every unit is fighting
domination based on skin color, race, political background, gender, and economic
status. The issue regarding rights degradation is no less of a separation of nature and
law of human beings. In fact, this system creates an imbalanced society and inquires
the ability of the authority to put coercion. Nonetheless, it sorted out to the ceaseless
violence and racism.
The fight of Nelson Mandela along with convictions and propositions of
democracy or free country against apartheid laws is very relevant in today’s society.
Without all of these, the world we live in will be dominated by apartheid policies. Yet,
recent events suggested that there were various acts of violence and racism happening
around the world. One example was the case of George Floyd in the USA. In my
opinion, it was clearly an act of violence and racism since the police officials degrade
the constitutional rights and used coercion instead to establish authority.
Violence and racism are two of the dilemmas our world has currently been
facing. The ideal of a democratic society in which all persons live in harmony and create
equal opportunities is everyone must have cherished. As Mandela lastly stressed, “It is
an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But it needs be, it is an ideal for which I
am prepared to die.”
