How to Prepare Quantitative Aptitude for SBI PO?

 The SBI PO preliminary exam contains three sections- Reasoning Ability,

Quantitative Aptitude and English Language.

 Quantitative Aptitude section is generally considered to be the toughest,

challenging and time consuming section in Prelims and Mains by many candidates.

 However, if sufficient practice is done, excellent performance can be made in this

section also which can make the difference in ranking of the candidate.

The only way to perform excellently in SBI PO Quantitative Aptitude is developing an in-
depth understanding of logics and regular practice. The more the practice is done, the
better will be the clarity of logics built in memory.

Preparation Tips
Spend about 3-4 hours every day for practicing calculation. Start with practice of basic
calculations like addition, subtraction, multiplication and fractions. Additionally,
memorise the multiplication tables, squares, cubes and core fractions. Practice previous
year papers and mock tests.
Some topics in this section are easy to solve, more scoring and less time
consuming while others might take more time than usual and the questions might
be tricky too. Questions may be frequently asked from following Topics-

Bar Graphs and Pie Charts Average Ratios Simplification

Line Graphs and Tabulations Mensuration Time and Distance Mixture and
Allegation
Linear and Quadratic Equations Graphs Time and Work Profit and Loss

Simple and Compound Interest Probability Problem of Ages

Permutation and Combination Fractions Number Series

SBI PO 2019: Quantitative Aptitude

Question Type-wise Preparation Strategy

Quantitative Aptitude is an important and a scoring section for most bank exams. We
need properly focus on the preparation of SBI PO  exam, in order to attempt the
maximum number of questions in 20 minutes time frame.
In order to score high in the prelims exam of SBI PO, speed and accuracy matter a lot.
So, we have to be very careful with the question selection. Pick the questions smartly in
which command is good and are less time-consuming.
As this section is vast and questions will be asked from a variety of topics, it should be
looked at as an opportunity, as there will be a lot of easy questions which can be used
to maximize score.

Type 1: Easy and less time-consuming topics

In order to maximize your score, you should prepare these topics well:

Topics No. of Questions Expected

Simplification 5

Number Series 5

Average/ Percentage/ Profit 5

and Loss/ Ratio and Proportion

Type 2: Difficult/Tricky yet less time-consuming

To attempt such questions, relevant shortcuts MUST be known. These are the topics
where it is very likely to make a silly error due to not comprehending the question well.
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]

Topics No. of Questions Expected

Simple and Compound Interest 1-2

Time and Work 2-3

Time, Speed and Distance 1-2

Quadratic Equatrion 2-3

Mixture and Allegation 1-2

Type 3: Easy and more time-consuming topics

Such questions should be solved later. As these topics are very easy and you definitely
know how to solve these problems but there are a very few shortcut methods which can
be applied to such questions.

Topics No. of Questions Expected

Permutation and Combination 2-3

Probability 1-2

Data Interpretation 5-10

Type 4: Difficult/Tricky and more time-consuming

It is not at all necessary that all 100 questions should be attempted. In the SBI PO
Prelims, it is important to clear the overall cutoff. The scores of SBI PO Prelims are just
qualifying and will not matter in the final selection. So, the most intelligent strategy for
these types of questions is to skip them or attempt solving them at the end so that
more time can be spent on other sections.
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]
date]

Now, let’s see how to approach these topics:

Number Series

 In this topic, if pattern of series is understood in one attempt, then it's good
otherwise it consumes more time to grasp the pattern.
 So give it one attempt. If it can be solved, then it’s good otherwise skip the
questions and don’t waste too much time on it. Practice a lot of questions to
have an understanding of various patterns.

Approximation/ Simplification

 If we are good in the calculation, then this topic can boost our score.
 Learn various short tricks to enhance calculation speed.
 Follow the ‘BODMAS’ rule and apply operations in the order of priority.
 In approximation questions, avoid calculating the exact figure and use
approximate values in the calculation.
 To ace this section, learn the tables up to 25, squares up to 30 and cubes up to
20. It will save calculation time and hence, increases speed.
 In this, we have to make approximations according to the question and options.
We can also use the option elimination technique to solve this question.
 Don’t attempt these questions first if there is a calculation phobia.

Quadratic Equations

 Questions from this topic are generally of moderate level.

 If the basics of this chapter are understood clearly, it is easy to attempt around 3-
4 questions.
 Practice various types of questions to understand the common patterns.

Data Interpretation

 Generally, 2 sets of data interpretation are asked in the prelims exam. We may
come across the following types of DI:
(a) Pie Charts
(b) Line Graphs
(c) Bar Graphs
(d) Missing DI
(e) Tabular Graphs
 It is the most scoring and time-consuming section. So, to score good marks we
need to master this topic properly.
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]
date]

 For this, we have to work on our calculation skills.

 Practice as many questions as possible to increase speed. Try to do the
calculations without the use of pen and paper.
 In this topic, some questions can be answered by just analyzing the data given in
the graph. Figure out the answer by just eliminating options and visual estimation
of the graph.
 Avoid the use of calculators while practicing.
 Practice is the only key which will help to understand the nature of the questions.
Practice questions from the previous year papers to inspect preparation level.
 Check and match the solutions after attempting the questions to know weak
areas and then improve them accordingly.
 For this topic, we must have a strong command over miscellaneous topics
like Ratio and Proportion, Averages, Percentages, Profit and Loss, Partnership, S.I,
C.I, Time and Work, etc.

Miscellaneous Arithmetic Questions

This consists of various topics of the arithmetic section. Attempt this in the remaining
time. While attempting the arithmetic questions attempt those topics first over which
you have a good hold and have been practiced thoroughly.

Important Points to Keep in Mind!

1. Time Management

It is the most important module for cracking any exam. Practice is the only key which
will help to improve the efficiency and speed to solve the question. While attempting
the mock test, analyze the time taken to solve the question individually. Then analyze
weak and strong areas. Strengthen the weak areas by understanding their basic
concepts and polish your strong areas by learning their short tricks and practicing more.

2. Don’t get stuck to a particular question

Many of the students take it to the heart when they are not able to solve the easy
question. Sometimes, we commit silly mistakes and try to resolve it without thinking
about the time constraint. So, just leave that question and move onto the next one.
Review it again at the end if there is any spare time.
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]
date]

3. Selection of the questions to attempt in 20 minutes

As we all know that SBI has introduced sectional timing in Prelims phase, so we will be
having only 20 minutes to solve the 35 questions. Thus, plan the exam strategy
beforehand. Everyone knows their strong areas, so attempt the topic first which looks
easy and less time taking. For instance, we can attempt Simplification/Approximation,
Quadratic Equation, and Data Interpretation first. After that give a single try to Number
series. At last attempt miscellaneous topics in which there is more comfort.

4. What should not be attempted?

Practice makes a man perfect. If we have practised daily, we would have known topics in
which we are weak. So, do not attempt the questions of that topic first because at the
time of solving these questions, we will not be confident and it will either lead to
incorrect questions and negative marking or just a waste of time.

5. Regular Practice

Practice sectional and full-length mock test. When we attempt the quant section in a
proper time limit, we will be able to analyze how we should approach it in the final
exam. We will know about the silly mistakes which you can avoid. Also, practicing helps
us figure out the topic which consumes more time and which needs to be done at first
for gaining maximum marks.

Try to attempt at least 25+ questions in this section in order to achieve a 20+ Score.

After achieving a good pace in the sectional tests, attempt 1 full mock test daily before
20 days of the exam. This way, daily score can be checked. Try to increase it day by day
and maintain accuracy. Don't forget that speed and accuracy work proportionally. We
should maintain them to score well.

How to Prepare Reasoning Section for SBI PO?

We all know that there are a few topics that are fixed from the exam’s point of view. We
are 100% confident that we are going to have some questions from these chapters
for sure. These topics coves around 40% to 50% of the total number of questions. If we
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]

prepare only these topics with perfection, then it is for sure that we are going to clear
this section very comfortably. Also these are the topics that coves most of the marks of
reasoning ability section, so these are highly recommended to cover.

The most important topics to prepare for reasoning ability are as follows –

 Puzzles
 Syllogisms
 Seating Arrangement
 Inequalities

Now let’s start the strategy of preparation topic wise.

Puzzles

This is the topic which is likely to contain the maximum number of questions and hence
maximum marks as well. We are going to find this topic in both the preliminary as well
as in the mains examination. This is a sure shot topic that we are going to face in any
banking examination.
This is the weak part for many of us. Most of us struggle with the puzzles in the
reasoning ability section of banking examinations. Well the first thing that we need to
know is that it not at all impossible to solve these questions. It’s just that they are
intentionally designed in the fashion to make to feel complicated and time consuming.

The very first thing that we need to do to make our puzzle portion strong is to stop
treating them as a difficult chapter. Also develop confidence that we can easily solve
these questions. This gives us the positivity that we lack while solving these questions in
the examination.

We can easily find 2 to 3 puzzles in preliminary as well as in the mains examination. The
probability is that we will have one or two 2 – dimensional puzzles and one to two 3 –
dimensional puzzles in the preliminary exam.

The 2 – dimensional questions are not at all difficult to solve if we have done good
practice of them. Try to solve 3 to 5 questions of 2 – dimensional puzzles of various
types every day. If we do so, then we can easily solve the 2 – dimensional puzzle
questions in the examination within 5 minutes for sure.
The 3 – dimensional puzzle question can be a bit time consuming but if we have done a
great practice then we can solve it really quickly. Try to solve at least 100 questions of
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]
date]

this type of various puzzle forms before going for the examination. Even if we are
solving this 3 – dimensional puzzle in around 3 to 4 minutes in the examination, it’s
perfectly fine because after all we are going to score sure marks out of it.

Problems can be either of:

 Circular Arrangement
 Linear Arrangement
 Box & Floor Based Puzzles
 Square / Rectangular Arrangement

Here are some useful tips which we should remember while solving the puzzle.

 Start with the direct information provided in the statement/s.

 Organize the information in the structure which is desired i.e., circle/table/ line.
 Learn the basic terms like “sitting to the left/right” “immediate right/left”, etc.
 After arranging direct information work on indirect one.
 If the puzzle provides us with a lot of information, most probably it is easy to
solve.

Syllogisms

Dealing with syllogism is not that difficult. We can easily score marks from this in any
banking examination. But we can find this topic either in the preliminary exams only or
in the mains exam only. We are not going to find this topic in both the papers.

These questions are completely based on logic and we can easily solve all the
questions from here. Just practice some questions daily. The number of question one
needs to practice can depend upon the ability of person to apply the logic and solve the
question.
We can easily solve all such questions within 5 to 7 minutes in the examination. Try to
learn all the various tricks to solve the questions. But the Venn diagrams are the best to
use. Also practice all different types of questions from this chapter like reverse
syllogisms.
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]
date]

Seating Arrangement
This is a topic which we find difficult to solve. But mind it; it is not at all difficult. Just
practice around 5 questions daily.

We need to practice mixed questions out of various different types like – circular seating
arrangement, rectangular seating arrangement, square seating arrangement and line
seating arrangement.
We will also find this topic in both the preliminary and in the mains examination. This is
among the topics that are sure shot and are also not much difficult to solve.
Along with seating arrangement of people there will be some other information unique
to them, making it tougher. It may be Blood Relations, Ages, Occupations, Companies,
Habits, etc. of different people. Mostly negative information will be given making the
problem even more difficult. So practice different arrangements. Try at least 40-50 sets
of Circular and Linear Arrangements each.

Inequalities

There are five inequality symbols that we deal with in these questions:

Greater than (>), less than (<), greater than or equal to (≥), less than or equal to (≤) and
equal to (=).

These inequalities are, at times, encoded using symbols such as @, #, $, * etc. The
inequality symbols given should be arranged in a sequential manner to as much extent
as possible. Towards the end, a conclusion will be drawn on the basis of this
arrangement.

This is the easiest part of reasoning section and can give us at least 5 marks without
investing much time. The Mathematical inequalities are simple, so practice at least 150-
200 different types of questions from this topic. But do prepare for Coded Inequalities
too as it can help us score 5 to 7 marks if asked. Make sure to practice at least 10 sets
(of 10 questions each) of both topics in the week leading up to the exam.

Scoring Chapters to Prepare

There are a few chapters, which are not sure from the exam’s point of view but there is a
possibility that if we find any of these, then we can easily score some extra marks.
The numbers of questions from these topics are not fixed but we can get some
questions from these chapters. And these are the topics that we can prepare easily and
can score good marks as well. These chapters are given below –
 Coding – Decoding
 Direction Senses
 Blood Relations
 Data Sufficiency

Now let’s get deep into strategy of each of the above mentioned topics.

Coding – Decoding

There are many forms of coding – decoding and we are required to prepare all of them
as we don’t know what they can ask you in the examination. We can find this topic
in both the preliminary and in the mains examination. The probability is that we will find
the easy form of coding – decoding in the preliminary exam in comparison to the mains
examination.

For the preliminary exam, the chances are of basic Chinese coding are high and for the
mains the chances are that we will face the other not so easy forms. We just have
to practice the various levels of the questions and the various forms of the questions.
Practicing from the topic wise of chapter wise test could be great idea here, as we can
easily find various type of question there from this chapter. The more questions you
solve on this topic, the better idea you will get to solve different types of questions.

Direction Senses

This one is the one of the easiest topics of reasoning ability. We can find this topic
in both the level of exams.
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]
date]

Another important factor here is that the direction questions also include the knowledge
of shortest distance calculations sometimes. So while practicing the direction senses
also practice the distance calculation.

There are chances that we can find this topic along with the seating arrangement or with
the puzzle chapter. Directions can be a dimension in those topics. So preparing this
topic will also help us in solving the puzzle and the seating arrangement questions.

Blood Relations

This one is a very important chapter of the reasoning ability section. We can find this
topic involved with a puzzle or with seating arrangement and can also find a separate
set of questions. It is easy to solve when asked separately but it is a bit difficult when
asked with the puzzle or seating arrangement.
Try to solve around 50 questions in total before going to attempt the actual paper. Also
practice this topic with puzzles and seating arrangement.

Data Sufficiency
The foremost thing to do is go through the complete question properly first. We’ll be
able to make out what data is required to arrive at the answer to the question and then
proceed to the statements that have been provided.

There is no need to solve the question completely. Analyse each statement individually.

Even if we conclude that the data in statement 1 is sufficient to answer the question, we
should not forget to check the other statements. We can use the elimination process of
options to narrow down the possible answers.

General Tips & Exam Strategy for Reasoning

Following are certain Do’s and Dont’s that we need to follow while solving the problems
of Reasoning Section.
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]
date]

1. Always be sure to solve the easier questions first as they are sure to fetch us
more marks. Spending time on the more difficult ones initially makes no sense.

2. First attempt all the Analogies, Ordering, Coding - Decoding, Inequalities,

Ranking, Arrangement & Pattern questions we can find. Attempt these questions in a
maximum of 5-7 minutes.

3. Next attempt the problems based on Input Output, Syllogisms, Blood Relations

and Directions & Distances.

4. At last attempt the Puzzles and Seating Arrangement within 10 minutes.

Use these expert tips and strategy to prepare Logical Reasoning for SBI PO.

 Learning basics should be very strong: As the name suggests, basics should be
very strong in the case of any and every subject. Assume there is not very much to
learn regarding the topics from which questions come in this section, the material
that is there should be covered so that we can build on that in case the questions
are way too difficult or unique in nature.

 Practice is the only key here: This is the most important thing regarding this
section since we need to sharpen our accuracy and speed in this section to score
more. The calculations and assumptions should be made in mind itself. That
should be the level of our practice. Remember we are supposed to crack puzzles,
more and more of them, and the time is limited and there is always a chance of
struggling with one puzzle and missing on the other questions. We need to learn
the extent to which we should go for a particular puzzle so that e do not get too
involved in one puzzle only. Our practice leads us to that ability to take a decision
regarding leaving or attempting a question.

 CAT books should be referred: Like in English section, CAT books will help us a
long way in SBI examination in reasoning section as well. But for reasoning, we
should restrict it to puzzles and logical reasoning questions only. For other
questions, basic reasoning books for banking examinations will do. Practice as
many puzzles as can be done so that we can devise a pattern in the puzzles and
device our own unique shortcut to crack the difficult puzzles.
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]
date]

 Time Table for preparation: Our First month should be towards finishing the
theory part of various chapters in reasoning with a revision of the topics. After
that, the whole next month should be devoted towards making intensive practice,
especially for puzzles. In last our sole focus should be on taking as many quality
mock tests as possible before we sit for the actual examination.

How to Prepare English Section for SBI PO?

English Language is a very important section for SBI PO as well as all other bank exams.
If we are not good at English, a proper preparation strategy can help us fetch good
marks in this section. There is sectional timing in SBI PO Prelims Exam. A candidate will
have 20 minutes to attempt English Language Section in SBI PO Prelims 2019. Here I am
sharing the English Language Preparation Strategy to help all prepare for this section in
a better way and perform well in SBI PO Prelims Exam 2019.

First and foremost, Let us first have a look at the questions that were asked in the
English Language section in SBI PO Prelims Exam last year -

Topic Name Number of questions asked

Reading Comprehension 7-10
Cloze Test 5-6

Match the column 4-5

Fillers 5-6

Error Spotting/Sentence Correction/Sentence Improvements 5-6

Topic-wise Preparation Strategy

Two crucial factors that we need to take care of while preparing English Section are -

 Vocabulary
 Grammar

If we manage to have a good hold over these parameters, attempting questions of the
English Language Section becomes comparatively easy.

Vocabulary –

Vocabulary is important for any bank exam since we come across numerous words in
the questions and if we do not understand what they actually mean, we cannot expect
to attempt them correctly.

Make sure to read at least 2-3 articles from different newspapers regularly. We can read
The Hindu, Economic Times etc. Try to look up the meaning of the new words that came
across in the article.

Direct questions from the following parts can be easily seen in the exam.

Cloze Test (5 or 10 blanks passage)

1. Fill in the Blanks (double blanks)

2. There are chances of finding questions belonging to topics like word association
pair, phrase or idiom meaning and spelling.
3. Whenever we come across a new word, whether in a newspaper or in an article or
book, make sure to look it up in a dictionary or Google it. This way we will
enhance our understanding of the context of the passage for Reading
Comprehension or Cloze Test.
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]
date]

Grammar –
Around 5-10 Qs in the paper will be based on Grammar concepts like Tenses, Articles,
Prepositions, Degrees of Comparison, Subject-Verb Agreement, Conjunctions, Parts of
Speech, Standard Construction, Adverbs, Number in Nouns, etc.

 Having a clear understanding of the grammar rules is a must for the exam.
 This will help us with numerous questions, especially Spotting errors.

Sentence Rearrangement-

 Read through all the sentences to determine the gist or summary of the passage;
 Look up the sentences independently and then think of how they come or match
together.
 Then try arranging them separately or one-by-one; try to identify the first and last
sentences of the passage, because that helps build a mental image or idea of how
the rest of the sentences should be like.

Comprehension

1. The passage will likely be based on topics like Banking & Economy, Geo-Politics,
Social Issues and Business etc. The good thing is that the questions will be
directly based on the content of the passage. But we must be alert while
choosing the correct option as the options are, sometimes, very similar.
2. The questions will be mainly Fact-Based, Inference Based and Vocabulary based.
Some questions can also be asked on the Main Idea, Theme of Passage &
author’s opinion. We may also be asked to draw Inferences based on our
understanding of the passage.
3.  Questions will be either 10 or 7/8.
4. The passages are of medium length, thus the habit of reading fast and
understanding the intent of the passage needs to be developed to minimize the
time and maximize the output.

5. Practice one comprehension question daily from questions available in the

books. Constant practice will help to achieve accuracy and minimize the time
required.
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]
date]

Try to keep following things in mind while solving questions of the topics
mentioned below -

Reading Comprehension - This may sound repetitive but reading articles

extensively on different topics is the key to answering the questions asked here.
Try practicing at least 2-3 passages daily to get hold of the topic. This is the
lengthiest area in the subject; first read the questions and then skim through the
passage. This way, we will be able to ‘pick’ out the answers from the passage as we
go through it. If it is felt comfortable, try answering the vocabulary questions first.

Cloze Test - While attempting a Cloze test, if we feel stuck on any blank, it should be
left out and move on to the next one is advised. Once done with it, try to go through
the previous blank. This might help since all the sentences of the passage are
logically connected with each other. Practice is needed to familiarize with more
topics; when presented with the options.

Parajumbles - While solving Parajumbles, first have a quick glance at the given

sentences to understand the gist of the paragraph. And, then look for the
independent sentence, which usually is the first sentence of the paragraph. Read
through all the sentences to determine the gist or summary of the passage; Look up
the sentences independently and then think of how they come or match together.

Then try arranging them separately or one-by-one; try to identify the first and last
sentences of the passage, because that helps build a mental image or idea of how
the rest of the sentences should be like.

Spotting Error/Sentence Improvement - Attempting Spotting Errors or Sentence

Improvement based questions is comparatively easy if we have a clear
understanding of all the grammar rules and the sentence structure. Read the
sentence in its entirety and see if it makes; quite often, some error will be obvious
and hence it will be easy to spot that out.

If not, look for the options and see what appears to be the most logically correct
choice.
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]
date]

Fill in the blanks/Double Fillers - In these questions, apply the elimination
technique. Eliminate options one by one which cannot be suitable. Choose that
option which fits the blank without changing the sense/theme of the sentence.

English Language Section: How to master it?

In order to score well in the English section, we are required to follow the following rules
and strategy:

 Read the basics of English: This is the first step for securing good marks in this
section of the SBI PO examination. We are required to take a standard book on
English grammar and finish the basic rules on sentences, clause, tense etc as
questions often are asked from these areas.

 Read Newspaper daily: We are going to benefit a lot from this as most of the
questions are asked in order to test your conceptual knowledge and contextual
application of the language. Reading novels, newspapers, listening to English news
etc will help us in scoring well in English.

 Practice makes a man perfect: There are a number of rules in English grammar

and we are certainly not going to benefit from reading those rules only. We are
required to practice as much as possible before the examination so that we are
accustomed to the exam questions and their difficulty level.

 Do not attempt only for the sake of attempting: This is important since most
of us attempt more in English because it takes less time to answer the questions.
But it proves fatal for most of the candidates as they end up losing marks due to
the negative marking system. Do not attempt the question without the
knowledge regarding something, only to boost up the number of total attempts.

 Go for CAT books: This is the best way to go for English section in the banking
examinations these days. Most of the question types are taken from the verbal
ability questions in the management entrance examinations such as CAT, XAT,
MAT etc. Hence, it is in our best interests that we start preparing at that level only.
So, prepare with the necessary practice in this section since good preparation can
fetch good marks in this section.
[Pick the
[TYPE THE DOCUMENT TITLE]
date]

 Learn as many new words as possible: Try to learn new words by going

through newspapers and novels in English so that our vocabulary is strong
enough to counter any challenge thrown by SBI in the examination.

 Practice writing as well: This is important for mains examination but it will help
us in the overall preparation as well. Writing correct English will give us confidence
in this section even in the prelims examination.

 Time Limit for preparation: First go for a basic grammar book and finish it
within this month including revision of the same. After that, pick up a good CAT
Verbal Ability book and attempt exercises of the questions that have been asked
in the latest banking examinations. This should do for the whole month as it will
also help to revise grammar rules that we have learnt already. The next month
should be devoted to Mock Tests only as it is necessary to be exam ready before
the actual examination.

English language Preparation Strategy – Descriptive Paper

 The descriptive paper will be of 30 minutes duration with 50 marks

assigned to the test of English Language. We will be tested on Letter
Writing & Essay. We need to secure passing marks to qualify the
Descriptive Test, to be decided by the Bank.
 The Descriptive Test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated
who have scored qualifying marks in the Objective Tests and are
placed adequately high as per total marks in Objective Test.

Why SBI PO Mains Descriptive Paper is Easier than you Think

 SBI PO Mains Descriptive Exam’s Qualifying Nature: SBI PO Mains

Descriptive Paper is just qualifying in nature; we don’t have to deal with the
stress of maximizing our score.
 Content is Key Master: If we are appearing for SBI PO Descriptive Paper, it’s
highly likely that we have good knowledge of Current Affairs and GK section
(Statistical Data, Factual information, etc.). We can use this in the descriptive
[Pick the

paper Essay and Letter. As we know that Quality content comes from good
knowledge of current affairs and GK. If our content knowledge is good and
our language is decent then we already win half the battle!!!
 We already know the Questions: The SBI PO Descriptive Paper is not going
to be complete surprise because we already know that we will have to solve
questions based an Essay related to recent events and we also know that we
have to write a Letter which will be either formal or informal.

The State Bank of India PO Prelims 2019 will take place on 8th, 9th, 15th and 16th June
2019. This is a very popular exam in India, giving an opportunity to work for the reputed
bank. We must understand the level of competition because of large number of
candidates applying for the same recruitment. If we start preparing for the SBI
PO Prelims today, we will have around 50 days to master our subjects for the exam. We
will need to invest a minimum of 3 hours for our preparation in studying and 2 hours in
mock test + analysis, every day. Here is the Detailed SBI PO Study Schedule that I
followed during my preparation.

My own Study Plan for Prelims

Here I am sharing my own study plan for Prelims that will help to know in detail
regarding how to plan and strategize study for English, Reasoning, and Quant.

In this daily study plan, all the topics from each section of the SBI PO Preliminary exam
are covered.  This will help to complete the syllabus and revise thoroughly within 40
days.

Some special features of my timetable are:

 Topics carrying more weightage in the exam are placed up in the schedule.
Therefore, if study is carried out according to this study schedule, cut-offs can easily
be cracked.

 I have not set any unrealistic goals for you. So, targets set for each day can be
easily achieved.

 There is enough room to analyze the performance by taking regular mock tests.

Should you join a Coaching Institute or Self

Study
The SBI PO exam is among one of the most reputed recruitment exam in India. Every
year a large number of candidates prepare to crack SBI PO exam. However, competition
among candidates is quite tough and only a few of them clear the exam.

During this journey of preparation, every candidate has countless questions regarding
the SBI PO exam and one of the most frequently asked question is- “Is coaching
necessary for SBI PO?” This is a valid question and because of the exponential growth
of banking and competitive examination coaching centres in India, every aspirant may
have thought about this at least once.

However, I am trying to highlight some factors based on my experience which can help
to decide if SBI PO coaching is necessary for you or not.

Is SBI PO Coaching Necessary?

The question is not just whether SBI PO coaching is necessary but also is it accessible
and affordable. A lot of candidates from small cities might not be able to access quality
coaching and for few, this might not be affordable. The answer here would be online
learning or self-learning.

Today, with the help of technology, we can access online video lessons and learn from
our own comfort. One can take online mock tests and evaluate performance towards
improvement. This way, we can rely on online study materials and mock tests instead of
going to a physical coaching center. The decision is to be made based on comfort level
and the need.
Few factors as mentioned below can help in deciding.
Style of Learning
The aim of every coaching company is the same: to ensure that their students learn their
study material well and do well in their examinations. However, the learning style differs
from student to student. When thinking if SBI PO coaching is necessary or not, ask
yourself: Can I learn better when I study alone? Or do I find studying inside a classroom
with other students to be more comfortable? Am I comfortable with self-study? If I find
myself to be comfortable with self-study, then I need not join a coaching center.

However, if a classroom environment helps in boosting energy, motivation, and focus,

then joining a coaching center might help.

Personality
Every student is unique by the skills and talents possessed, the kind of personality and
attitude towards everything. Therefore, personality too plays a major role in determining
whether SBI PO coaching would be beneficial or not. Are you a person who likes to be
alone only with a small group of trusted friends? Or are you someone who can easily
make friends wherever you go and do not mind meeting new people? If you do not feel
comfortable among new people and try to avoid interacting with strangers, then
perhaps there is no need to join any SBI PO coaching center. In that case you will not be
able to focus on SBI PO preparation if you are not comfortable in the environment of
study.

Expenditure
When studying for competitive and banking examinations, every student has a specific
expenditure in mind that he is willing to spend for facilitating education. For example,
students who plan to study for SBI PO will of course have thought about the books and
stationery expenses, newspaper costs, etc. Hence, decision to opt-in for SBI PO coaching
also depends on your budget.  You can opt for online video lessons and take mock tests
making it affordable while keeping your preparation up to the mark.

Daily Schedule
One of the most challenging parts when studying for SBI PO is consistency. We start off
with great enthusiasm, but most of us fail to be regular with our preparation. A major
reason behind this is our daily schedule. Working professionals may find it quite difficult
to attend coaching classes due to their unpredictable work schedules. Hence, when
deciding about joining SBI PO coaching, do take into consideration whether all the
classes can be attended or not? This problem can however be solved by opting in for
online SBI PO coaching which allows us to study whenever we wish or can.

Discipline
SBI PO is undoubtly a challenging examination and that’s why SBI PO coaching centers
are so popular in India. We may lack the motivation and discipline to continue studying
for the SBI PO examinations with the same level of efficiency and concentration after a
month as we did have on the first day. Hence, students join SBI PO coaching centers to
have someone push them to complete the chapters and force them to revise the same
which indirectly helps their preparation. Do we think such a factor would be necessary

for us as well? Can we stick to a study schedule that we prepare without anyone else
repeatedly telling us to? Can we finish off our daily targets in terms of the lessons we
plan to finish or revise? If not, we can be benefited from joining an SBI PO coaching
center. On the other hand, we can create a study plan and stick to it.

Location
The last factor to consider when we are thinking about SBI PO coaching classes is our
location. How far is the SBI PO coaching centre from our house? How long will it take us
to commute to and from there? Can it be done effectively within an hour or less? Or will
it take longer than that? Do you think we will be quite tired due to the daily commuting?
If yes, then we should rely on online-study only to save the invaluable time that would
otherwise be lost in our daily commuting.

I have tried to answer all those questions, I hope that we now have a much clearer
understanding of whether SBI PO coaching will be suitable for us or not.

Benefits of Self Study

 Commuting time to coaching and back home van be saved.

 We don't have to follow the study plan of coaching institutes. We can make our
own study plan and prepare accordingly.
 We can give as much time as we want to give on any particular subject or
topic until we master it.
 In a limited span of time, we can attempt or solve a greater number of questions,
that is we don't have to wait for other students or faculty to provide the
solutions, as generally happens in all coaching.
 We don't have to wait for doubt solving or revision classes. There is ample study
material on the internet.
 We can take various quizzes online and post our queries too.
 Some students are not able to concentrate or focus in coachings due to the huge
crowd. Coaching institutes cannot give special attention to each student. They are
concerned about maximum registrations in the class, paying less attention to the
quality of education.
