 Order food at a restaurant

Introduction or Paste some food pictures on the board and write the words appetizer, main course, desserts, drinks. 15 min
warm up Then have students associate those with their corresponding name. then have students do exercise 1
and 2 on page 64

Once in groups, students will answer the following warm up questions below (write them on the board).
Check the answers a whole class. Monitor that they speak only English as this is an opportunity for
communication. Give them 5-10 min max.

Is there a good restaurant you often like to visit?


Is the service good?
What do you normally order when you go this restaurant?
Do you usually pay with cash or credit card?
Do you know the meaning of the words waiter/waitress and customer?

While listening
Students will listen to a conversation in a restaurant and you will hand them out copy for them to
complete with vocabulary words.

Once students have finished, tell them to check the exercise and also practice the vocabulary words
on exercise 3.

Extension Then hand out all groups a copy of the situation (waiter and customers on page 44; vocabulary section)
Activity which I have erased the conversations in the bubbles. Tell students they need to fill in the bubble with 10 min
whatever they think matches each situation. Tell them to keep their books closed.

Once they have finished, groups will join other groups to check if they were able to create similar or different
conversations. Then check as whole class

Wrap-up or Hand out students a copy of vocabulary they can use at a restaurant. The vocabulary is split depending on 15 min
closure activity. the role of the student.. waiter/waitress, customer 1 and 2. Have students work together in the following
activities. You can provide money and menus
