CALIBRATION WITH DEAD WEIGHT TSETER

1 PURPOSE:
 Dead Weight Tester (Pressure Calibration System) is used to calibrate pressure-measuring
equipments of higher range in order to reduce time and labour with high accuracy
2 SCOPE:

3 PRE-REQUISITE
 Proper tools & appropriate fittings
 Dead Weight Tester
 Calibration certificate E & I / R-28
4 PROCEDURE:
 Generate a routine / cold / critical / hot permit according to the object instrument dismantling from
the system for calibration through dead weight tester
 This unit is designed to test pressure-measuring devices connected to its manifold
 It has got dual column configuration i.e. two column so that range changing is simplified, and
requires only the closing of one valve and opening of another
 The column are rigidly mounted on a base plate and have a crossover valve and a leveling
arrangement
 It includes a pump, manifold with pressure vernier, dead weight attachment, two columns &
weights
 Connect the object instrument by means of appropriate fittings to the dead weight tester & check
leakage carefully, because any leakage will result severe damages
 Develop the pressure, the release valve lever must be rotated clockwise until firmly seated
 For a specific reading put appropriate weight on appropriate column and then, build up system
pressure with the hand pump until the weights lift. This can be observed by comparing the vertical
position to the bottom weight with the indicator. The ideal "FLOAT" position is at one half the total
vertical travel of the weight stack
 Rotate the weights about 10 to 39 rpm to reduce friction
 Use the vernier piston in the center of the manifold to make the fine pressure adjustments
 Take different readings (5 observation) and note down on the calibration certificate, covering full
span of instrument under test e.g. 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%
 Release the pressure by rotating release valve lever in anti clockwise direction
 Make ensure the vent plug must be open during operation & do not operate the pump without fluid
 Clean the area & remove all the tools
 Make an entry of the said job in log book, prepare the calibration certificate R-28 & update the
instrument calibration schedule record E & I / R-08 for object instrument
