Introduction 1
The objective of these Operating Instructions is to convey know-how necessary to enable
instructed persons to operate the system professionally and safely.
Knowledge of the Operating Instructions and descriptions of the associated components is
required for all work on the various components. In case of doubt, request support from the
Siemens Customer Support.
Only appropriately trained and instructed personnel is permitted to operate the system.
These Operating Instructions are intended to inform and instruct defined target groups,
safeguard the manufacturer against liability, observe the product, provide traceability and
reproducibility, as well as the long-term or legally required archiving of the relevant
information content.
The individual sections of the Operating Instructions provide information about the product
itself, the handling of the product, and the actions of users.
This document includes safety information and the most important technical details of the
SINAMICS DCP.

2.1 Safety concept
DANGER
Grounding the SINAMICS DCP
High voltages that could cause death or serious injury may be still present in the SINAMICS
DCP even after the system has been shut down.
Work on the power units is only permitted when steps have been taken to ensure proper
grounding.

2.2 Notes on operator protection
Note
Qualified personnel
All work associated with the transport, installation, commissioning, operation or maintenance
must be performed by qualified specialist personnel (skilled electricians according to EN
50110-1 "Operation of electrical installations").
For the purpose of these basic safety instructions, "skilled technical personnel" means
people who are familiar with the installation, mounting, commissioning and operation of the
product. They must be properly qualified for the tasks with which they are charged.
The personnel must also be thoroughly familiar with all safety-related instructions and
measures in this documentation.
WARNING
Dangerous parts
The SINAMICS DCP may have live parts during operation.
Unauthorized removal of required covers, improper use, or incorrect installation or
operation may lead to death and serious injury or property damage.
Always take the appropriate precautions before touching any components.

2.2 Notes on operator protection
WARNING
Dangerous voltages
High voltages can cause death or serious injury if the safety rules are not observed or if the
equipment is handled improperly.
As soon as the DC link or the battery is connected, dangerous DC voltages are present.
When the SINAMICS DCP is in operation, high voltages occur, and can remain present for
a longer period after the equipment is switched off.
Make sure that work is only carried out by qualified personnel under strict observance of
the five safety rules, the warning notices in this documentation, and the safety-relevant
instructions.
DANGER
Capacitor discharge / dangerous voltages
After disconnection of the supply voltage, voltages are still present in the SINAMICS DCP
devices that could result in death or serious injury.
After you have switched off the power supply, observe the discharge time of the DC-link
capacitors of 1 minute before you perform any maintenance work or repair work and do not
touch the device during this period.
Measure the voltage once the discharge time has elapsed.
CAUTION
Hot surfaces
Certain components (e.g. heat sink, reactors, IGBT modules, etc.) can become very hot
during operation.
These components can remain very hot for some time after operation. Serious injury
(scalding) may occur if you come into contact with these components.
Do not touch hot components even after you have switched off the SINAMICS DCP.

WARNING
Electromagnetic radiation during operation of the plant
Electromagnetic fields are generated during operation of electrical power engineering
equipment, such as transformers, converters, and motors.
Electromagnetic fields can interfere with electronic devices, which could cause them to
malfunction.
For example, the operation of heart pacemakers can be impaired, potentially leading to
damage to a person's health or even death. Steps must be taken, therefore, to ensure that
persons with heart pacemakers cannot enter these areas.
The plant operator is responsible for taking appropriate measures (labels and hazard
warnings) to adequately protect operating personnel and others against any possible risk.
● Observe the relevant nationally applicable health and safety regulations or the applicable
national regulations in the country of installation.
● Display adequate hazard warning notices on the installation.

2.3 Notes on plant safety
Requirements
The operating company is responsible for the plant safety.
Ensure that:
● Basic planning activities and all work associated with transport, assembly, installation,
commissioning, maintenance and repair are performed exclusively by qualified personnel
or by experts assigned responsibility.
● The entire product documentation must always be available for all of the work that is
performed.
● The technical data and specifications regarding the permissible installation, connection,
environmental and operating conditions are always consequentially observed.
● The setup and safety regulations specific to this machine are observed and personal
safety precautions taken.
● It is prohibited for unqualified persons to work on these devices or in their vicinity.

Electrostatic discharge
Electronic modules contain components that can be destroyed by electrostatic discharge.
These modules can be easily destroyed if they are not handled properly.
To protect your equipment against damage, follow the instructions given below.

Area of application
A SINAMICS DCP is used to control the electrical power flow between two direct current
systems. The device operates as a controlled current source.
The main application of the SINAMICS DCP is to control the electrical power flow:
● From a DC link (the input side, terminals P1 and N1) to a stationary battery (the output
side, terminals P2 and N2).
This is also called motorized operation and means positive current.
● From a battery (the output side, terminals P2 and N2) back to the DC link (the input side,
terminals P1 and N1).
This is also called generator operation and means negative current.
The power flow in both directions (from the DC link to the battery and from the battery to the
DC link) is called bidirectional.
The voltages in the two DC circuits are independent of one another.
The electrical power flow, controlled by a signed current setpoint specification, is possible
irrespective of the voltages in the two DC circuits (in the nominal range).
The integration of a SINAMICS DCP in a complete technical system is illustrated in Chapter
Block diagram with connection suggestion (Page 36).
Design
The SINAMICS DCP are compact devices and contain power units and open-loop/closed-
loop control electronics.
The open-loop/closed-loop control electronics comprise several modules.
The module visible when the front plate is removed is called CUD (Control Unit DC).
LEDs are fitted on the CUD and other modules. They are not visible externally. They are not
relevant for the user, they are only used for diagnostics by SIEMENS experts.
The power units are equipped with IGBT technology, the heat sink is grounded.
The devices are forced-ventilated, the air flow is from the bottom to the top.
The minus cable is led from the input to the output, the current is controlled in the plus
branch.
The devices are only approved for cabinet mounting, vertical installation.
The SINAMICS DCP devices have IP20 degree of protection.
The connecting terminals are accessible from the front.

Description
Communication with the devices is via fieldbus (PROFIBUS or PROFINET) during normal
operation and STARTER for the parameter assignment and diagnostics.
Additional components
● CBE20 additional module
– The CBE20 additional module is inserted in the option module slot of the CUD. It
enables the SINAMICS DCP to participate in a PROFINET network as a slave.
● Memory card
– The memory card enables the functions described in Chapter Memory card functions
(Page 95).

Mounting 5
The SINAMICS DCP is only designed for cabinet mounting.
It must be mounted vertically.
The arrangement of the fixing positions is shown in the following:

The area below the device must be unobstructed and allow sufficient supply air.
The area above the device must allow the air outlet and the air outlet openings of the device
must be unobstructed.
The lateral clearance to other components (also for the attachment of further SINAMICS
DCPs) must be at least 20 mm.
The customer must make provisions for clamping the power cables.

This product can cause a direct current in the protective ground conductor. When a residual
current device (RCD) or a residual current monitor (RCM) is used for protection in the event
of direct or indirect contact, only an RCD or RCM of type B is permissible on the power
supply side of this product.

6.1 EMC-compliant installation
What is EMC?
EMC stands for "electromagnetic compatibility" and describes "the capability of a device to
function satisfactorily in an electromagnetic environment without itself causing interference
unacceptable for other devices in the environment". Therefore, the various units used should
not cause interference to one another.
Within the context of the EMC Directive, the SINAMICS DCP units described in this
document are not "units" at all, but are instead "components" that are intended to be
installed in an overall system or overall plant. For reasons of clarity, however, the generic
term "units" is used in many cases.

6.1 EMC-compliant installation
Four different categories are defined in EN 61800-3 depending on the location and the
power:
Category C1: Systems for rated voltages < 1000 V for unlimited use in the first environ-
ment
Category C2: Stationary systems for rated voltages < 1000 V for use in the second envi-
ronment. Use in the first environment is possible if the system is operated
and installed by qualified personnel. The warning information and installa-
tion instructions supplied by the manufacturer must be observed.
Category C3: Systems for rated voltages < 1000 V for exclusive use in the second envi-
ronment
Category C4: Systems for rated voltages ≥ 1000 V or for rated currents ≥ 400 A for use in
complex systems in the second environment
The figure below shows how the four categories are assigned to the first and second
environments:

6.1 EMC-compliant installation
The SINAMICS DCP devices satisfy the requirements for interference emissions and
interference immunity defined in EN 61800-3 for the second environment (Category C3) and
those in the generic standards EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4.
WARNING
General information
In order to ensure electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in rugged electrical environments and
adhere to the standards required by the relevant legislating body, the EMC rules listed below
should be followed during the construction and installation stages.
1 Connect all metallic parts of the control cabinet to one another over a flat area with
good conductivity (not paint against paint!). Use contact or scratch washers if neces-
sary. The cabinet door must be connected to the cabinet using the shortest possible
ground strips (at the top, center, and bottom).
2 Contactors, relays, solenoid valves, electromechanical operating hours counters, etc.,
in the cabinet and - where applicable - in neighboring cabinets - must be provided with
quenching combinations such as RC elements, varistors, and diodes. These must be
connected directly at the appropriate coil.
3 Whenever possible, lead signal cables 1) into the cabinet at one level only.
4 Unshielded cables in the same circuit (outgoing/incoming conductors) must be twisted
where possible, or the area between them minimized, to prevent unnecessary frame
antennae.

6.1 EMC-compliant installation
5 Connect spare wires to the cabinet ground 2) at both ends. This achieves an additional
shielding effect.
6 Avoid unnecessary cable lengths in order to keep coupling capacities and inductances
low.
7 Crosstalk is generally reduced if the cables are laid close to the control cabinet ground.
Therefore, do not route cables freely around the cabinet, but lay them as close as pos-
sible to the cabinet enclosure / mounting plates. This also applies to spare cables.
8 Signal and power cables must be physically separated (to prevent coupling paths).
Minimum clearance: 20 cm should be aimed at. If it is not possible to physically sepa-
rate the encoder and motor cables, the encoder cable must be decoupled either using
a partition or by routing it in a metal conduit. The partition or metal conduit must be
grounded at several points.
9 Ground the shields of digital signal cables at both ends (source and destination), ensur-
ing maximum contact area and good conductivity. In the event of poor equipotential
bonding between the shield connections, run an additional equalizing conductor with a
cross-section of at least 10 mm² parallel to the shield for the purpose of reducing the
shield current. Generally speaking, the shields may also be connected to the cabinet
enclosure (ground) 2) at several points. The shields can be connected several times
even outside the control cabinet. Foil shields should be avoided, as they are are at
least 5 times less effective than braided shields.
10 Shields for analog signal cables may be connected to ground at both ends if equipoten-
tial bonding is good (this must be done over a large area with good conductivity). It can
be assumed that equipotential bonding is good if all metal parts are well interconnected
and the electronics components are supplied from a single source.

Terminal arrangement
The connection cable must be stranded with a minimum cross-section of 10 mm2. The cable
used must satisfy the requirements of the recommended connection cable.
Note
The sheaf diameter of the cable must not be greater than 10 mm.
Ground connection
The device must be grounded. The device has a ground connection on the bottom, identified
by a grounding symbol.
Tightening torque of the screw terminals for the protective conductor: 25 Nm.

Communication connections
The cables for PROFIBUS or PROFINET must be connected inside the device. The front
cover must be removed for this.
● The PROFIBUS connector X126 is on the CUD module. The cable can be led out at the
bottom through the intended aperture.
● The PROFINET connector X1400 is on the CBE20 module. The cable can be led out at
the top through the intended aperture.

6.5 Additional system components
6.5.1.1 Description
The SINAMICS DCP can be connected to PROFINET using the Communication Board
CBE20 interface module. The module supports PROFINET IO with Isochronous Realtime

This unit is subject to hazardous voltage levels and contains dangerous rotating machine
parts (fans). Failure to comply with these Operating Instructions can lead to death, serious
injury and material damage.
Only qualified personnel who are familiar with all the safety instructions in this description,
as well as the installation, operating, and maintenance instructions, should carry out work
on this unit.
Perfect, safe and reliable operation of the equipment assumes that it has been
professionally transported, stored, mounted and installed as well as correct operation and
servicing.
Even when all contactors are open, the device is still subject to dangerous electrical voltage
levels. The internal DC-link capacitors may still be charged. Before starting any service or
maintenance work, disconnect the device on both power unit sides (P1/N1 and P2/N2).
To operate the SINAMICS DCP, the front cover fixing screw must be tight.
These instructions are not exhaustive and, as such, cannot outline all the measures
required in order to operate the device safely. Where necessary, additional information or
instructions may be required for special applications. If you encounter specific problems
that have not been handled in enough detail for the purposes of the buyer, then please
contact your local Siemens office.
The use of non-approved parts for carrying out repair work on the device or handling of the
device by inadequately qualified personnel will result in dangerous conditions with the risk
of death, serious injury, or extensive damage to equipment. All safety measures listed in
these Operating Instructions, as well as all warning signs attached to the device, must be
followed.
Observe all the warning notices in Chapter Safety notes (Page 13) of these Operating

NOTICE
Before coming into contact with modules (and in particular the CUDs), the operator must be
electrostatically discharged in order to protect electronic components against high voltages
that are produced by electrostatic charging. The easiest way to do this is to touch a
conductive, grounded object immediately beforehand (for example, bare metal parts of
control cabinet).
Modules must not come into contact with highly insulating materials (such as plastic sheets,
insulated desktops, or articles of clothing manufactured from synthetic fibers).
Modules may be placed only on conductive surfaces.
Note
During a data save operation initiated by the user, the electronics power supply for the
SINAMICS DCP must not be interrupted.
An active data save operation is indicated by the following actions:
• The RDY LED flashes (see Chapter Description of the LEDs on the CUD (Page 189))
• The BOP20 flashes
Interrupting the power supply while saving can lead to the loss of the current device
parameter assignments. See also Chapter Memory card functions (Page 95), Section
"Memory card functions".

After the device is switched on (POWER ON), the SINAMICS DCP ramps up. Ramp-up to
operating state 7.0 in the SINAMICS DCP with the saved parameters (RAM to ROM was
carried out) takes approx. 45 s. Ramp-up without the saved parameters (first commissioning)
takes approx. 60 s.
The status of the LEDs on the CUD (see also Chapter Description of the LEDs on the CUD
(Page 189)) can only be seen when the device cover is open.
Note
If options are being used and in the case of certain device configurations, the duration of the
ramp-up increases.
Note
If an external memory card with previously saved data is plugged into the SINAMICS DCP
during ramp-up, the device ramps up based on the parameter assignments saved on the
card (see also Chapter Memory card functions (Page 95)).

visible.
In the following exceptional cases, ramp-up is interrupted with display value 33. In this state,
the device can be parameterized via BOP20 and via STARTER:
● Differences have been identified between the reference and actual topology.
– Correct the topology (e.g. re-insert the TM component).
– Accept the actual topology into the reference topology by setting p9905=1 or p9905=2.
Ramp-up is continued.
● A memory card with a parameter data set which comes from a SINAMICS DCP with a
different MLFB, is inserted in the device.
– Accept the parameter data set by setting p9906=3. Ramp-up is continued.

You can use the STARTER commissioning tool to configure and commission the SINAMICS
drives or drive systems as well as the SINAMICS DCP. The drive configuration can be
performed with the aid of the STARTER wizard for drive configuration.

Parameter categories
The parameters of the individual drive objects are categorized into data sets as follows:
● Data set independent parameters
These parameters exist only once per drive object.
● Data set dependent parameters
These parameters can exist several times for each drive object and can be addressed via
the parameter index for reading and writing. A distinction is made between different data
set types:
– CDS: Command Data Set
By parameterizing several command data sets and switching between them, the
SINAMICS DCP can be operated with different preconfigured signal sources.
– DDS: Drive Data Set
The drive data set contains the parameters for switching between different drive
control configurations.
The CDS and DDS can be switched over during normal operation.
Note
With the SINAMICS DCP, the parameters of the closed-loop control are not implemented as
DDS parameters.

The power supply to the Control Unit may first be switched off only after saving has finished
(i.e. after saving has started, wait until the parameter has the value 0 again).

memory card would mean that for an automatic ramp-up after p0976 = 200, as usual, the

Access level
The parameters are subdivided into access levels. The SINAMICS DCP List Manual
specifies the access level at which the parameter can be displayed and modified. The

The CUD (Control Unit for the SINAMICS DCP) manages three memory areas:
● A volatile memory, the RAM, also called work memory
● A non-volatile memory, the ROM, also called flash memory
● An optionally available portable memory card
Note
Memory cards can be ordered as an option (S03) or as accessories, see Chapter
Ordering information for options and accessories (Page 27).
SINAMICS DCP does not accept other memory cards.
The work memory receives all project information and application programs while the device
is being operated. To save the current data from the work memory, you must copy it to non-
volatile memory before shutting down, see Chapter Commissioning (Page 53), "Copy RAM
to ROM" function.
An optional memory card is used:
● For saving various parameter data sets
● For transferring the parameter data sets to additional SINAMICS DCPs
● For series commissioning
The memory card is needed:
● For installing software updates
● For loading the DCC block library to the SINAMICS DCP

Copying parameter data sets from non-volatile memory to the memory card
There are three ways of copying parameter data sets from non-volatile memory (ROM) to the
memory card:
● The system is switched off
– Insert a memory card into the CUD
– Switch on the system
– The system is put into operation by the software in the "ROM"
– Then the complete updated parameter data set with the index 0 is automatically
copied from the "ROM" to the memory card without a prompt appearing.
● The system is switched on
– Insert a memory card into the CUD
– Execute the command "RAM to ROM" (p0977 = 1). The updated parameter data set is
copied automatically, first to the "ROM" and then as a data set to the memory card
with index 0. If the memory card already contains a parameter data set with the index
0, this will be overwritten without a prompt appearing.
● The system is switched on
– By the user, utilizing the parameter data transfer from ROM to the memory card:
p0804 = 2, p0802 = (0..100) as target on the memory card and p0803 = (0/10/11/12)
as source from the ROM.
Note
While saving (BOP20 flashes, RDY LED flashes), the device must NOT be switched off.
Switching off the device while saving leads to the loss of the most recently performed and
not yet saved device parameterization.
Note
When options are being used and with certain device configurations, the saving operation
can take several minutes.
Note
When a memory card is inserted, the RAM to ROM command (p0977 = 1) will copy the
parameter data set with the index 0 from the ROM to the memory card. A parameter data set
that might have been previously saved on the memory card is overwritten.

Copying parameter data sets from the memory card to non-volatile memory
There are two ways of copying parameter data sets from the memory card to non-volatile
memory:
● The system is switched off
– Insert a memory card containing a parameter data set with the index 0 into the CUD.
– Switch on the system. The new parameter data set will be copied to the ROM
automatically. The parameter data set with the index 0 which was previously in the
ROM will be overwritten.
– The system will then boot with the new parameter data set.
● The system is switched on
The user starts data transmission from the memory card to the ROM with parameters
p0802, p0803 and p0804:
– p0804 = 1
– p0802 = (0 ... 100) as source from the memory card and p0803 = (0/10/11/12) as
target to the ROM.
Note
The parameter data set in the ROM is overwritten during system start-up. If a memory card
with a parameter data set is inserted when the system is switched on, the parameter data set
with the index 0 in the ROM will be overwritten by the new one with the index 0 on the
memory card.

● Completely commission a "sample" SINAMICS DCP. As soon as all of the parameters
have been correctly set, carry out "RAM to ROM".
● Switch off the system and insert a memory card into the CUD. Switch on the system.
● The parameter assignment is saved on the memory card. If DCC charts are activated in
the system, then these as well as the DCC library are also saved on the memory card.
● Remove the card.
● Insert the card into a CUD that is switched-off and has still not been parameterized.

● The card can be removed once the system has powered-up. The CUD that was not
parameterized yet now has the same parameter assignment as the original "sample"

Note
The MLFB of the unit from which the parameter data set originated is also saved in a
parameter data set. If the parameter data set is loaded to a device with another MLFB
(POWER ON with the memory card inserted), then the device signals an inconsistent
topology (ramp-up stops with display "33" on the BOP, fault A1420 is output). This occurs, if
e.g. a parameter set that was generated from a 50 A unit is loaded to a 200 A device. In this
state, the user can accept the parameter set by setting p9906 = 3. The system continues to
ramp up.

The subscribers evaluate the broadcast telegrams sent from the publishers, and use the

The filter table is transferred as a dedicated block from the master to the slave with the
parameterizing telegram when a bus communication is established.
Configuration telegram
Using the configuration telegram, a slave knows how many setpoints are to be received from
the master and how many actual values are to be sent to the master.
For direct data exchange, a special space ID is required for each tap. The PROFIBUS
configuration tool (e.g. HW Config) generates this ID. The ID is then transferred with the
ChkCfg to the drive devices that operate as subscribers.

Direct data exchange is configured in HW Config and is simply an extension of an existing
telegram. Telegrams can be extended in STARTER (e.g. p0922 = 999).
In order to terminate the configuration of direct data exchange for the DOs, the telegram data
of the DOs in STARTER must be matched to those in the HW Config and must be extended.
The configuration is made centrally via the configuration of the respective CU.

Procedure
1. In the overview for the PROFIBUS telegram, you can access the telegram components of
the drive objects, here DC_CTRL. Select the telegram type "Free telegram configuration"
for the configuration.
2. Enter the telegram lengths for the input data and output data according to the settings in
HW Config. For direct data exchange links, the input data consists of the telegram
component of the master and the direct data exchange data.
3. Then set the telegram component in the telegram selection to the standard telegram for
drive objects (in the example: Standard telegram 1), which results in a split display of the
telegram types (standard telegram + telegram extension). The telegram extension
represents the telegram component of the direct data exchange.
By selecting the item "Communication → PROFIBUS" for the drive object "DC_CTRL" in the
project navigator, you obtain the structure of the PROFIBUS telegram in the receive and
send directions.
The telegram extension from PZD3 onwards is the component for direct data exchange.

The following PROFIBUS error texts can be displayed:
Power electronics faulted
An impermissible operating state of the power electronics was detected (overcurrent,
overtemperature, etc.). Check compliance with the permissible load cycles. Check the
ambient temperatures (fan).
Overtemperature of an electronic component
The temperature in the component has exceeded the highest permissible limit. Check the
ambient temperature / control cabinet ventilation.
Communication to the controller faulted
The communication to the higher-level controller (internal coupling, PROFIBUS, PROFINET,
etc.) is faulted or interrupted. Check the state of the higher-level controller. Check the
communication connection/wiring. Check the bus configuration/cycles.
Internal communication faulted
The internal communication between the SINAMICS components is faulted or interrupted.
Check the DRIVE-CLiQ wiring. Ensure an EMC-compliant installation. Observe the
maximum permissible quantity structures / cycles.
External signal state error
A measured value / signal state read-in via the input area (digital/analog/temperature) has
assumed an impermissible value/state. Identify and check the relevant signal. Check the set
thresholds.
Error in the parameterization / commissioning
An error was identified in the parameterization or in a commissioning procedure, or the
parameterization does not match the actual device configuration. Determine the exact cause
of the error with the commissioning tool, adapt the parameterization or device configuration.

General information
PROFINET IO is an open Industrial Ethernet standard for a wide range of production and
process automation applications. PROFINET IO is based on Industrial Ethernet and
observes TCP/IP and IT standards.
Signal processing in real time and determinism is important in industrial networks.
PROFINET IO satisfies these requirements.
The following standards ensure open, multi-vendor systems:
● International standard IEC 61158
PROFINET IO is optimized for high-speed, time-critical data communication at field level.
PROFINET IO
Within the context of Totally Integrated Automation (TIA), PROFINET is the systematic
development of the following systems:
● PROFIBUS DP, the established fieldbus,
and
● Industrial Ethernet, the communication bus for the cell level
Experiences from both systems have been and are being integrated in PROFINET. As an
Ethernet-based automation standard defined by PROFIBUS International (PROFIBUS user
organization), PROFINET IO is a non-proprietary communication and engineering model.
PROFINET IO defines every aspect of the data exchange between IO controllers (devices
with so-called "master functionality") and the IO devices (those with so-called "slave
functionality") as well as parameter assignment and diagnostic processes. An IO system is
configured by virtually the same method used for PROFIBUS.
A PROFINET IO system is made up of the following devices:
● The IO controller controls automation tasks.
● An IO device is controlled and monitored by an IO controller. An IO device consists of
several modules and submodules.
● IO supervisor is an engineering tool typically based on a PC that is used to parameterize
and diagnose individual IO devices (drive units).
When a CBE20 Communication Board is inserted, SINAMICS DCP becomes an IO device in
terms of PROFINET. SINAMICS DCP and CBE20 can be used for communication via
PROFINET IO with RT.

Cycle communication using PROFINET IO with IRT or using RT is possible on all drive units
equipped with a PROFINET interface. This means that problem-free communication using

Real-time communication
When communication takes place via TCP/IP, the resulting transmission times may be too
long and non-deterministic to meet production automation requirements. When
communicating time-critical IO user data, PROFINET IO therefore uses its own real-time
channel, rather than TCP/IP.
Determinism
Determinism means that a system will react in a predictable ("deterministic") manner.
With PROFINET IO, it is possible to precisely determine (predict) transmission times.

8.5.2.2 Addresses
MAC address
Every Ethernet and PROFINET interface is assigned a worldwide unique device identifier in
the factory. This 6-byte long device identifier is the MAC address. The MAC address is
divided up as follows:
● Three bytes for the manufacturer's ID
● Three bytes for the device identifier (consecutive number)
The MAC address is on a label (CBE20), e.g. 08-00-06-6B-80-C0
IP address
The TCP/IP protocol is a prerequisite for establishing a connection and for parameter
assignment. To allow a PROFINET device to be addressed as a node on Industrial Ethernet,
this device requires a unique IP address in the network. The IP address is made up of four
decimal numbers with a range of values from 0 through 255. The decimal numbers are
separated by a period. The IP address comprises:
● The address of the node (also called host or network node)
● The address of the (sub) network

IP address assignment
The IP addresses of IO devices can be assigned by the IO controller and always have the
same subnet screen as the IO controller. In this case, the IP address is not stored
permanently. The IP address entry is lost after POWER ON/OFF. The IP address can be
assigned retentively via the STARTER function "Accessible nodes".
This function can also be performed with HW Config of STEP 7. The function is called "Edit
Ethernet node" here.
Note
If the network is part of an existing Ethernet company network, obtain the information (IP
address) from your network administrator.
Note
The device name must be stored retentively using either STARTER, the Primary Setup Tool
(PST) or with HW Config of STEP 7.

You can enter the address data for the ports of the optional CBE20 module in STARTER in

PROFINET switch with four ports.
Note
Ring topology
When connecting the ports, it must be ensured that for standard applications a ring topology
is not created. Additional information on ring topologies can be found in Chapter Media

DCP flashing
This function is used to check the correct assignment to a module and its interfaces.
1. In HW Config or the STEP 7 Manager, select the menu item "Target system" > Ethernet >
Edit Ethernet node".
The "Edit Ethernet Node" dialog box opens.
2. Click the "Browse" button.
The "Browse Network" dialog box opens and displays the connected nodes.
3. Select the CUD with inserted CBE20 as node.
The "DCP flashing" function is then activated via the "Flash" button.
The "DCP flashing" function is activated on the RDY LED (READY LED 2 Hz, green/orange
or red/orange) on the CUD.

RT
RT communication is based on standard Ethernet. The data is transferred via prioritized
Ethernet telegrams. Because standard Ethernet does not support any synchronization
mechanisms, isochronous operation is not possible with PROFINET IO with RT!
The real update cycle in which cyclic data is exchanged depends on the bus load, the
devices used and the quantity framework of the I/O data. The update cycle is a multiple of
the send cycle.
IRT
Two options are available with this RT class:
● IRT "high flexibility"
● IRT "high performance"
Is not supported by SINAMICS DCP.

The IRT "high performance" real-time class is supported by the drives of the SINAMICS
S110 and S120 series and is described here for reasons of completeness.
In addition to the bandwidth reservation, the telegram traffic can be further optimized by
configuring the topology. This enhances the performance during data exchange and the
deterministic behavior. The IRT time interval can thus be further optimized or minimized with
respect to IRT "high flexibility".
In addition to the isochronous data transfer provided by IRT, even the application itself
(position control cycle, IPO cycle) can be isochronous in the devices. This is an essential
requirement for closed-loop axis control and synchronization via the bus. Isochronous data
transfer with cycle times well below one millisecond and with a deviation in the cycle start
(jitter) of less than a microsecond provide sufficient performance reserves for demanding
motion control applications.
The RT classes IRT "high flexibility" and IRT "high performance" can be selected as options
in the synchronization settings configuration area of HW Config. In the description below,
both these classes are simply referred to as "IRT".
In contrast to standard Ethernet and PROFINET IO with RT, the telegrams for PROFINET IO
with IRT are transferred according to a schedule.

Synchronization domain
The sum of all devices to be synchronized form a synchronization domain. The whole
domain must be set to a single, specific RT class (real-time class) for synchronization.
Different synchronization domains can communicate with one another via RT.
For IRT, all IO devices and IO controllers must be synchronized with a common
synchronization master.
RT allows an IO controller to communicate with a drive unit outside a synchronization
domain or "through" another synchronization domain. As of Version 5.4 SP1, STEP 7
supports multiple synchronization domains on a single Ethernet subnet.
Example:
● Synchronization domain IRT: SIMOTION2 with SINAMICS
● SINAMICS, which is assigned to the IO system of SIMOTION1, is arranged in the
topology in such a way that its RT communication must be established through the IRT
synchronization domain.

Messages
The following PROFIdrive error texts are displayed during forwarding via the PROFINET
diagnostics channel:
Hardware/software fault
A hardware or software malfunction was detected. Carry out a POWER ON for the relevant
component. If it occurs again, contact the hotline.
Supply voltage fault
An electronic power supply fault (48 V, 24 V, 5 V, etc.) was detected. Check the wiring.
Check the voltage level.
Power electronics faulted
An impermissible operating state of the power electronics was detected (overcurrent,
overtemperature, etc.). Check compliance with the permissible load cycles. Check the
ambient temperatures (fan).
Overtemperature of an electronic component
The temperature in the component has exceeded the highest permissible limit. Check the
ambient temperature / control cabinet ventilation.
Communication to the higher-level controller faulted
The communication to the higher-level controller (internal coupling, PROFIBUS, PROFINET,
etc.) is faulted or interrupted. Check the state of the higher-level controller. Check the
communication connection/wiring. Check the bus configuration/cycles.
Internal (DRIVE-CLiQ) communication faulted
The internal communication between the SINAMICS components is faulted or interrupted.
Check the DRIVE-CLiQ wiring. Ensure an EMC-compliant installation. Observe the
maximum permissible quantity structures / cycles.
External measured value / signal state outside of the permissible range
A measured value / signal state read-in via the input area (digital/analog/temperature) has
assumed an impermissible value/state. Identify and check the relevant signal. Check the set
thresholds.
Fault in the parameterization/configuration/commissioning procedure
An error was identified in the parameterization or in a commissioning procedure, or the
parameterization does not match the actual device configuration. Determine the exact cause
of the error with the commissioning tool, adapt the parameterization or device configuration.
General drive fault
Group fault, determine the exact cause of the fault with the commissioning tool.

This setpoint can be the:

The setpoint must be specified as a signed relative value (percentage of the rated current or
rated power):
● Positive setpoint means current flow from side 1 (DC link) to side 2 (battery)
● Negative setpoint means current flow from side 2 (battery) to side 1 (DC link)
The setpoint is used to limit the steepness via a settable ramp.
(p55055, factory setting: 0 ... 100% in 50 ms).
Setpoints below a parameterizable threshold (p55056) are considered to be zero.
The specified setpoint is always converted to a choke current setpoint which is used for
control.

All limits depend on the installation altitude and the measured supply air temperature. See
Chapter Derating (Page 187).
Note
The overvoltage range is required for SINAMICS DCP applications in photovoltaic
installations, for the so-called "flying restart" of a PV array. This means, if the PV array under
no-load (and therefore has a higher voltage) is to be loaded. The load immediately reduces
the voltage of the PV array and thus the departure from the overvoltage range.
Note that after every operation in the overvoltage range, a waiting time of 5 minutes must be
observed before the SINAMICS DCP can be operated in the overvoltage range again. This
means that if the "flying restart" attempt fails, you must wait 5 minutes before another
attempt can be made.
Voltage limitation
See function diagram 6812 in the SINAMICS DCP List Manual.
The SINAMICS DCP provides limitation functions for the protection of the battery and DC
link.
The limitation cases are:
● Protection of the battery against overcharging
● Protection of the battery against overdischarging
● DC-link overvoltage
● DC-link undervoltage
A voltage limitation pair can be parameterized for each of these four limitation cases.
● Voltage value for the start of the limitation (current reduction) and
● Final voltage (at which current = 0 is reached)

Pulse-width modulation

Direct connection (without precharging) to the DC link or the battery causes high current
peaks and can destroy the device.
The precharging is controlled by the device. It is assumed that the appropriate switchgear
and precharging resistances are present in the system (not part of the scope of delivery),
and connected according to Figure 6-3 Block diagram (Page 36).
The parameters to be set can be seen in function diagram 6835 and are described in the
parameter list in the List Manual.
There are two types of precharging:
● Resistance precharging
● Precharging through "step-up"

– The SINAMICS DCP steps up the input to the DC-link voltage (which is specified via
fieldbus).
– When the waiting time p55355[0] expires, the line contactor on the input side is
closed. The input capacitance of the SINAMICS DCP should have been charged up to
the DC-link voltage before this time expires.
Note
The step-up of the input capacitance takes significantly longer than the resistance
precharging. Therefore, the setting p55355[0] >= 2000 ms is recommended in this
case.

This reduction is called "derating".

Rated current
At installation altitudes above 2000 m, the rated current is reduced by 7.5% / 1000 m.
At air supply temperatures of 40° C to 55° C, the rated current is reduced linearly to 60%.
At air supply temperatures above 55° C, the device is shut down with an alarm message.

Acknowledging faults
The list of faults and alarms specifies how each fault is acknowledged after the cause has
been remedied.
1. Acknowledgment of faults with "POWER ON"
– Switch the drive unit on/off (POWER ON).
2. Acknowledgment of faults with "IMMEDIATE"
– Via PROFIBUS control signal
STW1.7 (reset fault memory): 0/1 edge
Set STW1.0 (ON/OFF1) = "0" and "1"

Note
A fault buffer and an alarm buffer are provided for each drive object. The specific messages
are entered in these buffers for this object.
The contents of the fault buffer are saved to the non-volatile memory when the Control Unit
is powered down, i.e. the fault buffer history is still available when the device is powered up
again.
Note
The entry in the fault/alarm buffer is made after a delay. For this reason, the fault/alarm
buffer should not be read until a change in the buffer is also recognized (r0944, r2121) after
"Fault active"/"Alarm active" is output.

Only those messages which are listed in the indexed parameters can be changed as
desired. All other messages retain their factory settings or are reset to the factory settings.
Examples:
• In the case of messages listed via p2128[0...19], the message type can be changed. The
factory setting is set for all other messages.
• The fault response of fault F12345 has been changed via p2100[n]. The factory settings
are to be restored.

8.13 Drive Control Chart (DCC) for SINAMICS DCP
General information
The DCC technology option (Drive Control Chart) is available for complex applications. With
DCC, a function diagram can be graphically created, which comprises elementary function
blocks (DCBs, Drive Control Blocks) that are connected with each other, and which can then
be loaded to the SINAMICS DCP.
The following steps are required to implement an executable DCC chart with the SINAMICS
DCP:
1. Installation of STARTER and a DCC license on the PC
– STARTER V4.4 is available on the product DVD of the SINAMICS DCP.
– The DCC license can be ordered as follows:

Note
Only version V4.60.07.00 enables DCC on the SINAMICS DCP, but not all other versions
(e.g. V4.60.06.00 or V4.70.07.00).
5. Compile the DCC chart on the PC and load it to the SINAMICS DCP
– Compile via the shortcut menu of the DCC chart:

– Load the SINAMICS DCP via the STARTER menu:
Project > Download to target system
Note
If in the menu"Options > Settings…" the checkbox "Compile all programs before
loading" is activated under the "Download" heading, the manual "Accept and compile"
can be omitted.
Ramp-up time
If DCC is installed in the SINAMICS DCP, the ramp-up time increases by approx. 10 s.

● The actual CPU time load of the CUD can be read out on r9976.
● To make own calculations, the above-illustrated CPU time loads can be taken as "linear".
This means that:
– Half as many blocks in the same time slice generate half as much CPU time load, etc.
– The same number of blocks in a half as fast time slice generate half as much CPU
time load, etc.
The final limits are determined by the total memory available on the CUD. If the above-
mentioned maximum limits are exceeded, this can result in errors during upload or download
(e.g. fault F1105: CU memory insufficient) and the SINAMICS DCP can no longer be
switched on; a Power OFF/ON must be performed.
Note
In most cases, the CPU time load of the CUD is the limiting factor, not the memory load.

● Free function blocks and a DCC chart can be used at the same time.
● If you load a DCC chart to the SINAMICS DCP, although the technology package
TPdcblib_SINAMICS_4_6.3.0 is not available in the SINAMICS DCP, then it signals an
error. To correct this error, proceed as follows:
– Install the technology package TPdcblib_SINAMICS_4_6.3.0 as described above.
– Then carry out a POWER OFF/ON.
– Load the STARTER project together with the DCC chart to the SINAMICS DCP.

SINAMICS DCP devices should only be serviced by personnel from the manufacturer or by
Siemens personnel trained by the manufacturer.
DANGER
Capacitor discharge / dangerous voltages
Once the line voltage has been disconnected, voltages that could result in death or serious
injury are still present in the SINAMICS DCP.
After you have switched off the power supply, observe the discharge time of the DC-link
capacitors of 1 minute before you perform any maintenance work or repair work and do not
touch the device during this period.
Measure the voltage at the DC-link capacitors once the discharge time has elapsed.
The SINAMICS DCP must be provided with extensive protection measures against
contamination in order to prevent voltage flashovers and damage. Dust and foreign bodies,
which are brought in by the cooling-air flow in particular, must be thoroughly removed at
certain intervals; this depends on the rate of accumulation of dirt, but should be carried out at
least every 12 months. The device must be blown out with dry compressed air at a maximum
of 1 bar, or cleaned using a vacuum cleaner.
The screw connections (also the protective conductor connections) must be retightened
each time that maintenance work is carried out on a SINAMICS DCP.

The following steps are necessary:

A memory card is required for the software update (see Chapter Ordering information for
options and accessories (Page 27)).
In this case, under certain circumstances, STARTER cannot assign the project to the correct
device version. If the STARTER project is not available, generate a new project with the old
device version (load to the PG before the software update) and then proceed as normal.

Note
Only memory cards which have been prepared for these systems by Siemens will be
accepted.
If the memory card is formatted, formatting must be performed with the FAT16 setting.
To download the latest software version, see Preface (Page 5).
Procedure
● Unzip the *.zip file to an empty memory card.
● Insert the card in the SINAMICS DCP, which has been switched-off, and switch the
device on again. The firmware is updated. The update has been completed if the RDY-
LED and the DP1-LED flash at 0.5 Hz (the update takes about 12 minutes).
● Carry out a POWER OFF. Remove the memory card from the SINAMICS DCP.
NOTICE
If the memory card is not removed from the SINAMICS DCP before the POWER ON, the
parameterization in the SINAMICS DCP is copied to the memory card during ramp-up, or a
parameterization already on the card copied to the SINAMICS DCP.
For a detailed description of this function, see Chapter Memory card functions (Page 95),
Section "Copying parameter data sets from non-volatile memory to the memory card".

WARNING
Qualified personnel
Fans must only be replaced by qualified personnel.
The DC-link capacitors continue to carry dangerous voltage levels following disconnection.
For this reason, the device should not be opened until a reasonable period of time has
elapsed.
Failure to observe this warning information can result in death, serious injury, or extensive
material damage.
The recommendation to replace the fans is indicated by the alarm in Chapter Operating
hours counter, device fan (Page 186).
The individual fans cannot be replaced. The entire fan unit (contains four fans) must always
be replaced.

The input side (side 1, terminals P1/N1) of the device is connected to a DC link in a normal
application.
