1. U GENERAL
1.1 Intent
This specification constitutes instruction to the manufacturer of piping material for the procedure of
markings, so that proper identification of piping materials could be made during the construction and
Contractor of the process plants and industrial facilities.
1.2 Scope
This specification shall be attached to all requisitions of properly instructed to all manufacturers of piping
materials such as pipe, fittings, valves, flanges, gaskets, bolts and nuts.
2. U MARKING GENERAL
2.1 Marking for identification
2.1.1 Marking of symbols, abbreviations, and other marks for identification shall generally be accomplished
by either one or a combination of castings, forgings, punching, stenciling tags, labels, and tapes. The
type of marking shall be subject to purchaser ’s approval.
2.1.2 Punching depth shall not exceed 1 mm
2.1.3 Stenciling color shall be black , however for piping components whose surfaces are black of dark, it
shall be white.

2.2.2 Brands of paints used for material discrimination shall be selected by manufacturer of piping materials.
For stainless steels, paints containing materials that adversely affect to the stainless quality shall not
be used.
2.2.3 One discrimination color shall be one line , and two discrimination colors shall be paralleling two lines.

2) Dimensions shall be indicated by / ” Nominal size x Schedule No. x Length “. When nominal size
and schedule No. cannot be applied, actual outside or inside diameter, and wall thickness may be
indicated in millimeter. Nominal sizes shall be in accordance with either millimeter system(A) or
inch system (B)

2) When nominal sizes and schedule No. can not be applied, actual outside or inside diameter, and all
thickness may be indicated in millimeter. Nominal sizes shall conform to either millimeter system
(A) or inch system (B).
3) Symbols that indicate whether an elbow is long radius type or short radius type, shall be
included.
4) For small fittings on which marking items can not be fully indicated, the following items, in whole or
part, may be omitted.
(a) Symbols that indicate whether an elbow is long radius type or short radius type.
(b) Nominal sizes.

Equipment and piping can be additionally marked with lettering (e.g. vessel no.,
identification of volume), color bands (e.g. fluid marking), or symbols (e.g. arrows for indicating the flow
direction).
9.1 Lettering
Lettering for equipment shall be placed once on each item of equipment at clearly visible location. The
letters should have the following height:
- For equipment with width or diameter of < 1 m. U U : 50 or 80 mm.
- For equipment with width or diameter of > 1 m to 5 m : 100 mm.
Letter for pipelines shall be place at clearly visible near the points where the pipelines leave the
ground of the pipe rack. Decisions about any further lettering required shall be taken on site.
The letters should have the following height :
- For pipes of < DN25 ( 1“)
U U : 10 mm.
- For Pipes of > DN 25 to DN 80 ( 1” to 3” ) : 20 mm.
- For pipes of > DN 80 to DN 150 ( 3” to 6” ) : 30 mm.
- For pipes of > DN 150 to DN 1000 (6” to 40”) : 50 mm.
- For pipes of > DN 1000 ( 40” ) : 100 mm.
The blank space between the letters should be 10% of the letter height. The type of letters shall be
determined on site. For the color of the letters, table A shall apply. Lettering for tanks shall be placed
at a height of approx. 4/5 or the shall height. Lettering for horizontal vessels, spherical vessels, and
pipelines shall be placed at the height of the centerline.
