● Constitutional Amendments Journal

The Constitution of the United States of America was signed on September 17,
1787. Today we celebrate September 17th each year to commemorate its formation
and signing. A big part of the Constitution of the United States of America is the
amendments that were put into place to allow the document to be so flexible and
to give us our rights as citizens. Respond to the following prompt:

In your own words, describe what rights are given to american citizens in the 1st,
4th, 5th, and 8th amendments. Provide a minimum of one sentence answer for
each amendment. You must provide a minimum of 4 sentences total for your
response.

● Constitution Day Activity

Instructional Sequence:

1. The teacher will work on taking attendance for in-person and remote
students. The following message will be displayed to students at the start of
class:
*Online Students type “here” in the chat box for attendance*
1. Open your Chromebooks
2. Login to Schoology
3. Complete Constitutional Amendments Journal

*If you have extra time submit any unsubmitted assignments.

The teacher will prompt students to work the Constitution Day Journal while
attendance is being taken. Once attendance is taken, class will start by
introducing our learning objectives for the day and the agenda of what we
will complete during the class period. Next, we will review two student
responses to the journal prompt as a class, one in person and one remote
student. The teacher will relate the journal responses to the learning objective
(20 minutes).
2. The teacher will prompt students to open the Constitution Day Activity on
Schoology. The teacher will explain the directions for the assignment.
Students are only to complete question #6 (the amendments table). Students
will complete only this one section of the activity, as past students have been
prompted to do in previous years. Students will be broken up into their
preassigned breakout groups and complete the chart. Students will be made
aware that they need to determine a speaker for their group when I call on
the group for answers. Students will be encouraged to divide the assignment
amongst their group members, one amendment per person. Students will
then share their answers amongst their group members. The teacher will give
students a return time, in which students must be back in the class Google
Meet. The teacher will monitor breakout groups by rotating between the
small Google Meets. Once everyone has returned back to the class Google
Meet we will review answers. The teacher will call on four groups to share
answers. The teacher will make sure to relate this activity to the learning
objective throughout the activity (25 minutes).

Assessment: Students will be formatively assessed during this class period with the
Constitutional Amendments Journal and students responses within their
Constitution Day Activity. Through this formative assessment, students and I will be
able to phrase in their own words amendments of the Constitution of the United
States of America.
