1. What remnants of Westphalian system can still be felt at this day and age?

In what sense has

the world gone beyond the Westphalian System?

The Westphalian system was created when the Treaty of Westphalia was signed on
October 24, 1648, marking the end of the thirty-year war. The core points of the treaty were the
recognition of state sovereignty and the non-intervention of countries. The system can still be felt
to this day as non-aggression pacts within countries were still being respected and followed.

Furthermore, Treaties are still being signed to this day, the most significant one being
The Barents Sea Treaty, which happened on September 15, 2010. The treaty recognized both
Norway’s and the Russian Federations’ claims on their recognized economic zones in the
Barents Sea, leading to Maritime Delimitation and Cooperation.

2. What are the differences between liberal and socialist internationalism? What are their
strengths and weaknesses?

Liberal Internationalism states that the best way to organize international relations is
through interdependence, cooperation, diplomacy and support for international political
structures and organizations.

Strengths

 Promotes economic growth

 Collective Security

 Preserve Human Rights

 Fair Competition

Weaknesses

 Over-Dependence

 Unfair Wages

 Exploitation of resources
 Market Inconsistency

While Socialist Internationalism suggests that reorganizing and developing the world’s
productive forces is the best way to solve problems in international cooperation. It states that
each country's working-class movement must adapt itself to the conditions peculiar to a
particular country.

Strengths

 Excess or insufficient production can be avoided;

 Prices can be controlled in a proper extent;
 Socialism can tackle unemployment to a great extent.
 In theory, based on public benefits, socialism has the greatest goal of common wealth;
 Since the government controls almost all of society’s functions, it can make better use of
resources, labors and lands;

Weaknesses

 The national economy develops relatively slowly;

 There is an inability to obtain the upmost profit from the use of resources, labors and land
 Places that have a geographical advantage lose chances to develop better
 People who have intelligence and wealth lose chances to make their businesses become
bigger
 People lose initiative to work and enthusiasm to study as doing more isn’t rewarded
3. Do you think Internationalization erodes the sovereignty of the state?

Although there are some aspects of internationalization that could lead to these train of
thought. I believe that this is not the case as each state still has its own governing body, policies
and rules. While there have been cases of annexation of a country, usually this is cause by border
disputes and the one country recognizing that it is already a part of it. Much like what happened
with Russia when it annexed the Republic of Crimea in 2019.
