The salient features of the 1987 Philippine Constitution in terms of:

1. The system of government-

It implements a democratic system with a presidential form of government.

2. State Policies and Principles

According to Article II of the 1987 Philippine Constitution; which is the embodiment of the
state’s policies and principles, the policies and principles serves as a guide to the three
branches of the government in the exercise of their powers and implementation of the
constitution.

3. The Bill of Rights

Bill of Rights is about, charge of rights and in some cases called an affirmation of rights or a
constitution of rights; is a list of laws of the foremost imperative rights to the citizens of a
nation.

4. Citizenship and Suffrage

Article IV, Section 1, it states that: Those born before January 17, 1973, of Filipino mothers,
who elect Philippine citizenship upon reaching the age of majority; and. Those who are
naturalized in accordance of law.

According to Article V, Section 1. Suffrage may be exercised by all citizens of the


Philippines not otherwise disqualified by law, who are at least eighteen years of age, and
who shall have resided in the Philippines for at least one year, and in the place wherein they
propose to vote, for at least six months immediately preceding the election. No literacy,
property, or other substantive requirement shall be imposed on the exercise of suffrage.

5. The three branches of government

There are three branches here in the Philippines:

The Legislative Branch to make the laws. The Executive Branch to enforce the laws. The
Judicial Branch to interpret the laws.
