What a finite elements mesh is?
A FE‐mesh is a set of nodes and cells (finite elements):
• Nodes defined by its coordinates
• Cells (elements) defined by a given connectivity
• Groups of cells (GROUP_MA) and groups of nodes (GROUP_NO)
12
Installing Salome‐Meca v2019
8 Creating the mesh
Select Mesh + Create Mesh or click on icon
“create mesh”

9 Defining type of elements of the mesh
In the Create Mesh window, enter your mesh name (i.e. “MeshBody”) and select the type of
elements (tetrahedrals in this example)
14

16 Importing an already existent mesh
To import an already existing mesh into Salome‐Meca, go to File + Import and then select the
format of the mesh file to be imported. Several options area available at Salome‐Meca:

17 Viewing your imported mesh
Then you will see your imported mesh (“Mesh_1”) in the Object Browser window, together with your
“MeshBody”. You can view or hide a mesh by simply clicking on the small icon at the left of the mesh
names.

20 Drilling the body
Let’s create a drilling in the body. We need to create a cylinder. First, we will create a point.
Select the icon “Create a point”, enter the point coordinates and App&Close:
25
Installing Salome‐Meca v2019
Select the icon “Create a cylinder”. Tic the left option and now, on the Object Browser window on the left
(OBW) select the “Vertex_1” as the Base Point and the vector “OZ”as the Vector. Finally, enter the
cylinder Radius and Height and, as shown. Click App&Close and you will see your new created cylinder
26
Installing Salome‐Meca v2019
Now to create the hole, we need to substract the cylinder from the body, using a boolean operator. Select
Operations + Boolean + Cut (or the icon “Cut”). Enter the name of your new body (i.e. “BodyDrilled”) . On
the OBW select the Main Object and the Tool Object and then App&Close. You will see your drilled body.

21 “Chamfering” the body
Now we want to make a chamfer over the whole body. Select Operations + Chamfer (or the icon
“Chamfer”). Enter the name of your new chamfered body (i.e. “BodyChamfered”) . On the OBW select
the Main Object and the size of the chamfer. Then App&Close and you will see your chamfered body.

22 “Filleting” the body
Now we want to fillet all the edges of the body’s top face. Go back to your BodyDrilled. Select Operations +
Fillet3D (or the icon “Fillet3D”). Enter the name of your new filleted body (i.e. “BodyFilleted”) and tic the
third option on the right. On the OBW select the Main Object, select the face to be filleted and the size of
the fillet. Then App&Close and you will see your filleted body.
