Some values that I believe are important are honesty, respect/responsibility,

listening/communication and a sense of hope. Listening is the ability to accurately receive and

interpret messages in the communication. Without the ability to listen effectively, messages are

easily misunderstood. This is important to me because without effective listening, how can you

understand the other person and come to a common ground. A lot can be done when someone

listens effectively, and the communication is through on both sides. Honesty demonstrates what

we say and by what we do because it impacts our life. This is important because if you aren’t be

honest especially with yourself, you are just lying, and it greatly impacts yourself and others

around you. Respecting others/responsibility is something that needs to be earned, and being

respectful in schools especially, will help you achieve greater success. You will earn respect by

taking your responsibility seriously and putting in the effort needed to do the best job possible.

This is important because growing up we were always told that in order to gain respect you have

to give respect. Respect goes hand in hand with responsibility because everyone’s values shall be

respectful, even if they do not match yours. That is where respect and responsibility come into

play because you are respecting the values of others and being held responsible to keep that

respect. Sense of hope for students is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation

of positive outcomes with respect to events and circumstances in one’s life or the world at large.

Being optimistic is needed at times because we need to look to the future and let ourselves know

that we strive at things that we do.

Most of my values derive from personal experiences, my family and rules and laws that I

abide by. As you grow up, you start to learn things from others, which is then incorporated in

your daily life and simply how you see the world. Once that happens, the way you tackle the

world will be very unique. When it comes to variable outcomes, I am most comfortable with the
learning process. “How we learn becomes as important as what we learn” This is because there

isn’t enough time to learn everything that needs to be learned throughout the school year. Giving

students the tools to know what best helps them learn is what I strive for. This helps them by

taking the tools that I’ve given them and implementing them to further their learning process and

build their education.
