Topic: Is K-12 advantageous to the learning of the students?

Learning is the aspect of development that connotes modification of behavior, skills, and
knowledge that results from practice and experience which seek for quality education. What will
happen if a new system for education was implemented is it advantageous? Well perhaps it is. The K-
12 program covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education and was implemented during 2011.
The implementation of K-12 in the country drew negative reactions from various people. Despite of
the calls to suspend it the government remained firm saying that this educational system offers
opportunities for Filipino students and the national economy. Thus, this program is advantageous for
the students because it improves the quality of education, increases the competitiveness of the
students and enhanced individual’s capacity and skills in a certain field.

Prior to the implementation of the K-12 curriculum guide, the Philippines was one of only three
countries in the world and the only one in Asia that still had only 10 years in basic education.
Basically, this is the reason why we should pursue the K-12 program because it is more beneficial for
the students who are competing in an increasingly global job market. Hence, they will be more
equipped to deal with much higher level of learning as they enter college education. According to
Allison, “K-12 curriculum aligns with the hopes you have for your children that they will be prepared to
do anything they want, without limitations. You feel like your kids can accomplish anything.”
In addition to this, this program improves the student’s mathematical, scientific, and linguistic
competence because it offers higher quality education through tracks. Each track will give students
enough time to master a field and enhanced their skills. In the end, K-12 graduates will become
globally competitive and are set to obtain spot in the stiff labor market.

K-12 enhances the capacity of each student in order for them to be well-prepared especially in
emotional and cognitive aspects. Also, it was designed to produce efficient, skilled and work-ready
students and given plenty of time to master basic academic skills which will make them good in a
certain field. The government believes that K-12 curriculum will put students at par with the rest of the
world. Now, is K-12 advantageous? It is definitely more than what is expected. If those few stated
beneficial above are not enough to prove my position, so what do you think are? Truly, investing in
education is the key toward reaching national growth and development.
