The students of the Department of Fashion Technology at NIFT Kannur request a fee concession due to the difficulties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. They note that their semester is online so they are not able to make use of campus facilities. Many parents have also faced loss of income or business, making it difficult to pay the full fees. The students propose a minimum 50% reduction in fees to help alleviate the financial burden on parents during this time. They also request a 60% reduction in hostel fees since students are not currently occupying or using hostel facilities.

We the students of Department of Fashion Technology, (SEMESTER-5) of NIFT KANNUR
would like to bring some key points in the notice, regarding fee concession from our annual fee structure. This is to inform the authorities of NIFT that during the period of uncertainty due to Covid-19, it is difficult for us to pay the wholesome amount. During this pandemic situation many of our parents have faced loss in their businesses, and challenges in the professional front which have left families affected on a larger part. 1. Since we are having our semester online, where we are all aware that the institute provides us with the course which is completely practical oriented, we are therefore not using the labs, library, infrastructure and the required atmosphere for our studies, hence the majority of facilities are cut directly on our part. 2. To mention, students residing in the hostel haven’t used the facility since the mid of march and paying for the amenities like electricity, water, Wi-Fi, etc., without any usage seems difficult on our part. 3. This to bring in your kind notice, that we students are compromising on a very large part regarding semester running online, where it is very difficult for us to concentrate and get fully involved with the studies, due to improper atmosphere and environment around, with no required facilities as per the course, it will be unfair for our parents to pay the wholesome amount without having all the provisions required. 4. We want the authority to definitely consider, where due to pandemic there has been a huge loss in employment and a considerable fall in the economic status of the people, parents are not in a state of providing the considered amount as per the given fee structure, as there other things to be taken care as well on the part of holding lives in the families. 5. We are also aware of the fact, that certain part of our fees is converted into the salaries of faculties and staff members of the institution. Therefore, we would like to propose a minimum of 50% reduction from our fee structure. This will majorly help as a relief to many of the parents in this Covid-19 situation. 6. We would like you to consider hostel fees since we are not occupying the rooms and not using any of the facility provided. But since our belongings are still under the security of the institution, we would like you to consider the per cent i.e., a 60% reduction in the hostel fees as well. We would like to request the authority to give consideration to the stated problem and provide us with a revised fee structure due to Covid-19, which will ultimately help parents in reducing the burden. We will be grateful for your consideration. Sincerely Students of DFT 5 NIFT KANNUR
