CHAPTER 1: Introduction to Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

OPENING ACTIVITY
Form five groups. Each group is assigned to a specific electronic devices.
Group 1  a mobile phone - (also known as a hand phone, cell phone,
or cellular telephone) is a small portable radio telephone. The mobile phone can be
used to communicate over long distances without wires. It works by communicating with
a nearby base station (also called a "cell site") which connects it to the
main phone network.
Mobile phones are used for a variety of purposes, such as keeping in touch with family
members, for conducting business, and in order to have access to a telephone in the
event of an emergency. Some people carry more than one mobile phone for different
purposes, such as for business and personal use. Therefore mobile phone are
important because they allow you to store data. Pictures, text and audio can be stored
on many mobile phones. This enables you to carry your files around wherever you go,
ensuring that you are always with important documents for work or your personal life
and type of communication devices.
Group 2  a laptop speaker - Laptop computers have built-in integrated speakers,
usually small and of restricted sound quality to conserve space. Instead of using a
computer speaker for better sound, a computer can be connected to any external sound
system, typically a high-power high-quality setup.
 All in one purpose device. (Built-in)  Easy to carry with all you need.  Convenient
Group 3  a power bank - portable battery designed to recharge electronic gadgets when
you don’t have access to a regular wall charger. Ranging in size from slim, pocket-sized
devices up to larger, high-capacity power banks – they can be used to charge cell
phones, tablets, cameras, portable speakers, gaming consoles, or even laptops.
Therefore it is a recharger, is a device used to put energy into a secondary cell or
rechargeable battery by forcing an electric current through it. The charging protocol
depends on the size and type of the battery being charged.
Why power banks are useful? Because power banks has risen significantly as they
provide a very convenient and easy method of charging smartphones and other devices
when away from mains power.
Group 4  a flash drive - a small electronic device containing flash memory that is used
for storing data or transferring it to or from a computer, digital camera, etc. in other
words it is data storage device that includes flash memory with an integrated USB
interface. It is typically removable, rewritable and much smaller than an optical disc.
These days, flash drives are as ubiquitous as cell phones. As the prices come down
and the sizes become smaller and smaller, more and more people are using them to
store files and to copy/transfer files from one computer to another. Additionally, they
pack lots of storage powers!
 It is easy to carry.  It if affordable and convenient.  Very helpful to store data.  It
has also a big capacity of storage to choose.
Group 5  a headset or earphones - Headphones are a pair of small loudspeaker drivers
worn on or around the head over a user's ears. They are electroacoustic transducers,
which convert an electrical signal to a corresponding sound. Earphone is also an
electrical device worn on the ear to receive radio or telephone communications or to
listen to a radio, MP3 player, etc., without other people hearing. Therefore headsets are
ear-worn speakers (or a single speaker) coupled with a microphone for interactive use
with telecom systems, intercoms, or computers. Earphones are often a catch-all term
for speakers that rest over or inside the ear, or fit directly into the ear canal.
The need to have headphones/earphone is something most of us have already
experienced. Whether you go jogging, commute to school or work, or simply with to
enjoy the best quality sound without any background noise, you are bound to
appreciate the benefits of headphones.
 Better Isolation from the Outside World. Unlike speakers, which can provide a
fantastic quality of sound, headphones allow a much greater immersion, because they
can cancel out the outside noise and any similar distractions.  Better Experience. 
The Ability to Focus.  Easy to Use.  Don't damage your hearing.

A. Group Activity
Prepare a 5-10 minutes oral report about your group’s assigned electronic device by
answering the following question:
1. Is the device a part of a computer system? If yes, is it a computer peripheral? If not,
how is this device classified? Yes, because a Computer Peripherals Devices are devices which
could be connected to the computer by using outside ports. Some of these are actually optional
devices to improve the function of your computer. They are normally, input and output devices.
Therefore, any of various devices (including sensors) used to enter information and instructions
into a computer for storage or processing and to deliver the processed data to a human operator
or, in some cases, a machine controlled by the computer. Such devices make up
the peripheral equipment of modern digital computer systems.
2. Where do you usually see or use this device? Do you find it useful in your daily
activities? Why or why not? You can see it on parts of a computer like in Output equipment
includes video display terminals, ink-jet and laser printers, loudspeakers, headphones, and
devices such as flow valves that control machinery, often in response to computer processing of
sensor input data. Some devices, such as video display terminals and USB hubs, may provide
both input and output. Other examples are devices that enable the transmission and reception of
data between computers—e.g., modems and network interfaces and the Input devices include
typewriter-like keyboards; handheld devices such as the mouse, trackball, joystick, trackpad, and
special pen with pressure-sensitive pad; microphones, webcams, and digital cameras. They also
include sensors that provide information about their environment—temperature, pressure, and so
forth—to a computer. Another direct-entry mechanism is the optical laser scanner (e.g., scanners
used with point-of-sale terminals in retail stores) that can read bar-coded data or optical character
fonts. Yes, it is useful for our daily activities because it will be allowed you to access your
computer functionally and responsively in other words Computer Peripherals are input
output devices of host computer, whose function is purely dependent upon the host. These
computer peripherals expand the abilities of host computer making it more functional.
Computer peripherals have to be installed for efficient working of computer.

A. Group Activity
I. Work with the same groupings. Discuss among yourselves how the Pass the message
relates to the chapter discussion by answering following question:
1. What was the pass code in the game for? Why is it important to have a “pass code” in a
computer system? We all know that "passcode" is a string of characters used as a password,
especially to gain access to a computer or smartphone. Therefore passcode is a numeric sequence
used to authenticate a user on a computer or electronic device. The term is sometimes used
synonymously with "password," but technically a passcode only contains numbers. In the game,
"passcode" is very important to access each other because a computer system required a
authenticate of a user. Simple and commonly used passwords enable intruders to easily gain
access and control of a computing device. And also in the game it is identify on how computer
system works by wired and wireless access it indicates on how devices deliver their responses to
a computer system.
2. How was the concept of wired and wireless connections applied in the game? Which
one do you consider wired? Wireless? In the game, It will be considered as a wired connection is
player one until player four because they show physical contact with each other, in other words,
a keyboard is a wired connection that shows on how it works, so that portion is a wired
connection. Otherwise, the wireless connection starts with player five until last because they are
using a paper to access each other, but it also considered the player five that he/she shouts out
loud the passcode that can access it for everyone without a process of physical connection,
therefore it shows the wireless connection characteristic.
II. Imagine life without computers. How is it like? Now imagine the future with
everything going computerized or digital. How is it like? Life without computers will be the
same as it used to be decades ago. We will depend on maintaining files in a big room to stack a
piece of information or do the oldest way of communication like sending letters to your dear and
loved ones instead of using email for communication and so on. Imagine our life without a
computer because they became an essential or integral part of our life but suppose if we remove
the computer then it's bad effect could have seen in every field, whether it Healthcare, Service
Sector, Food Industry, Agriculture, Transportation, Economy and more. Visualize the future with
everything going computerized or digital our life makes be making life easier and changing the
way everything works leads to be better and convenient.

time I need it.
B. Individual Activity
I. Perform a search using same keywords with Yahoo! And Google. Then, compare and
contrast the search result. What did you find out? Share your findings with the class.
Search Engines
Yahoo and Google each use special sets of instructions called algorithms to automatically summarize
web content, make assumptions about the meaning of a user's search and match that search to the most
appropriate content possible. These algorithms are the most important aspect of any search engine and
are kept secret. When a user enters a search, the differences in each company's algorithm can return
very different results.
Design Differences
While aesthetic differences may seem insubstantial, they can make a big difference in the type of
information you find on each site. For example, if a user searches a popular musician or actor, Yahoo
will return videos of the searched person at the top of the page while Google will simply return the
same kind of results it would for a normal search.
Tools and Features
Both Yahoo and Google offer a variety of extra tools and special features. Google's robust "Maps" tool
is a good example. It allows users not only to find a map to any address, but even to zoom to street
level and see an actual picture of most streets. Yahoo offers a hotel-finding tool that allows users to
compare hotel availability and rates. Both Yahoo and Google offer shopping tools that automatically
compare the price of an item at multiple retail outlets to help users compare prices. These are only a
few of the tools offered. Both companies are constantly adding and updating features.

I found out that Both Yahoo! and Google are search engines, they have different features,
designs, and they provide different information. Therefore Yahoo and Google are two companies
that provide services with a different type of strategy, secure and easy access searching engines
in other words these are companies competing with each other. I think the Google algorithm is
known to be much better than any other search engine. This is because it favors quality content
over well-established links and pages, unlike Yahoo which still prefers old and well-established
websites. Not only is Google good for users as it provides them with reliable and relevant results,
but it is also preferred by new bloggers and site owners because it gives the opportunity to build
valuable links.

II. In this exercise, you have an option of the programming languages you wish to use to
create a simple personal web page. You can apply the CSS style code to created personal web
page and get a first impression what CSS style can do.

Identify a game you are familiar with and have played frequently online or on your
mobile phone. Explain briefly the mechanics of the game and the reasons why you like playing
this game. List the game items that players often buy to either improve their gaming skills or
upgrade their avatars. Identify the items that need virtual money and those that require real
money. Prepare a short presentation in class on the advantages and disadvantages of having your
“good experience.”
GAME NAME: MOBILE LEGENDS

Mobile Legends is a multiplayer online battle game. The goal of the game is to reach the enemy’s base and
destroy it while defending your own base. You and 4 other team members that are randomly selected from players
across the globe will fight against another team of 5. You and your team need to defend your base for path control,
fighting both AI and opponent enemies, and destroying turrets until you destroy the enemy base.

BASIC MECHANICS – MAP & STRATEGY

LANE - There are three separate lanes you can travel to get to your enemy turrets and base: Top (typically
suited for Fighters), Middle (typically suited for Assassins), and Bottom (typically suited for Mages or Tanks). The
type of lane you go through will also determine what type of enemy players you’ll encounter. The best strategy is to
play to your strengths based on your character. Remember that this is a team effort so don’t charge into random
lanes on your own and fire randomly. Have at least two heroes in your lane so you and your minions can clear out
enemy minions within the first one or two rounds. If your minions survive the round, stand with them in the enemy
turret ring for attack. Once you and your lane mate destroys the first turret, move on to the next set of enemies and
turrets until all are destroyed. When you get attacked by enemy heroes, switch your focus from the minions to them
as enemy heroes tend to give more damage.

JUNGLE-Jungles are in between the three lanes. These areas weave their way into the map so you can cut
through to lanes without having to go back and around map areas. Jungles have monsters scattered in those areas
and give you a faster way of gaining gold and exp for your hero. You can spend the waiting period for enemy
minions to kill one of the jungle monsters. Just take note that more powerful monsters are spawned as the match
goes on. They do, however, give you better and more powerful bonuses. If you’re lucky, you may even get a bonus
specific for your hero’s health, damage, and even defense. Take note that specific characters are better suited for
jungle areas than others and even have gear builds specific for jungling so be sure that your character is well-suited
for the area before charging in for the monster kill.
TEAMWORK AND STRATEGY-Remember that MOBA is a team game so charging in on your own isn’t
the best strategy to win. Enemy heroes could be team up so going solo may completely wipe you out before the
game even starts. Be sure to talk to your teammates so you can group up by character to move through a specific
lane. (see: section on Heroes and Lanes) You’ll even find some players that run all three lanes to support any
teammates who need help with enemy heroes. Remember that teamwork is key in defeating enemies and keeping up
your defenses.
Why I like to play this game because it is fun in other words this game is easy to
understand the mechanics, it has a lot of characters and styles that made me like it, and
also you meet a lot of players/people because it allows opening mic in-game. It is a great
game that's why many people like to play this game. This means players can play it
anywhere, at a shop, at a cafe, and more. This makes the game more accessible anywhere
and anytime, as well as opening the device option from the phone. To acquire virtual money
