1. Main Ideas (What are the main ideas that have you gained in the article?)
I. In April of 2000, Bill Joy ignited a heated discussion concerning the role of
technology in modern society.
II. His article in Wired magazines entitled “Why the Future Doesn’t Need Us” became
the focus of a growing concern that technological advances are coming so quickly and
are so dramatic that they threaten the future existence of humanity itself.
III. He argues that the 21st century technologies such as genetic engineering,
nanotechnology and robotics (GNR) are a great threat that they might wipe out the
human race from face of the Earth.
II. However, reading the article/ understanding the lesson, I now think/ realize…
That it is not as good as how it looked like how did in my mind. Immortality had
been one of the few things I had thought of solving. I have been too seduced by the
promise of eternal life that I had been thinking on how to achieve it. I had thought about
how the consciousness could be stored in a chip or thumb drive can be installed into a
body and there you go, being a complete human being. And that catching down a bit on
the field of technology might be the only solution as of today. We cannot predict the
future but we can see a bit of where we are heading but we cannot steer it.
2. Short Answer Question
I. The article is titled “Why the Future Doesn’t Need Us?” Do you agree that the future
won’t indeed us? Explain your answer.
I disagree because the definition I know in technology it is not all about invasion or
something else that killed people. What I mean is technology is created to be our
partners in life. Partner that human become more productive and effective. Partner that
help people doing their works more faster, and easily. In short for me technology
technology built for human satisfaction obey man command and workers for it.
