SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

2 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
2.1 GENERAL

WARNING !

Follow the safety instructions of the hydraulic system when coupling and using the loader
hydraulics.

* Disconnect the hydraulic pressure from the loader when starting the tractor.

* Support the loader for maintenance or repairs so, that none of its components is solely
depending on the hydraulic cylinder.

* Under no circumstances change the pressure settings of the directional control valve
relief valves. Raised pressure setting will cause an overload situation in the loader
structure. RISK OF ACCIDENT!

* Keep the hydraulic hoses and pipes of the loader in good condition and replace defect
components. A high pressure oil spout from a broken pipe or hose might penetrate the
skin and cause a serious inflammation. If so, immediately contact a physician.

* Make sure that the safety cover, fixed on the loader directional control valve to stop the
oil spout, always is in place and in good condition.

* Observe extreme caution when taking the loader into use after repairing the hydraulic
system or when there for some other reason is air in the hydraulic system. The air in the
hydraulic system might cause unforseen loader movements. RISK OF ACCIDENT!

* When replacing components, pipes and hoses of the hydraulic system, make sure their
pressure rating is sufficient.

2
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

2.2 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR HANDLING OILS AND

GREASES
* Avoid skin contact with oil or grease when operating or maintaining the machine. The oils
and greases may contain additives harmful by repeated skin contact. When handling these
substances, follow the instructions given by the manufacturer and authorities.

* Always wear proper protective clothing, protective skin cream and proper gloves when
handling oils and greases.

* Never clean your hands with lubricating oils or greases, cause possible metal particles in
the lubricants might damage the skin.

* Never use clothes soiled with oils and greases.

* Never keep oily tools or other oily objects in your pockets.

* If oil or grease result in skin changes, immediately contact a physician.

* Waste oil from maintenance or repairs shall be sent to a place, where it can be duly
treated.

COMPONENTS AND FUNCTION
* The main pressure filter is located in the supply line coming from the pump.

* The control valve with 8 spools has four spools with hydraulic remote control by hydraulic
pressure, and four ON/OFF-acting spools with electro-hydraulic remote control.

* Remote control levers. One remote control lever enables the hydraulic remote control of
two control valve spools, and with the rocking switch (electrical), located at the top of the
lever, you can control one of the electro-hydraulical ON/OFF-spools. Inside the remote
control lever housing there are four pressure spools. By deviating the lever from the centre
position you can alter the remote control pressure of one pressure spool (crosswise
movement) or two spools (diagonal movement) continuously between 0...25 bar.

COMPONENTS AND FUNCTION
* The main pressure filter is located in the supply line coming from the pump.

* The control valve with 8 spools has four spools with continuous hydraulic remote control,
and four ON/OFF-acting spools with electro-hydraulic remote control.

* Remote control levers. One remote control lever enables hydraulic remote control of two
control valve spools, and with the rocking switch (electrical), located at the top of the lever,
can be controlled one of the electro-hydraulical ON/OFF-spools.

8
INSTALLATION TO THE TRACTOR HYDRAULICS

4 INSTALLATION TO THE TRACTOR HYDRAULICS

* Connect the control valve supply hose to the single or double acting outlet of the tractor
or, if using external hydraulics, straight to the pump. You may use a quick-acting coupling
in the supply hose when connecting to the tractor outlet, but this is not recommended due
to pressure loss. The main return hose of the control valve 3/4“ shall always be connected
directly to the reservoir connection, which has no back pressure.

* NEVER CONNECT A QUICK-ACTING COUPLING to the return hose, because there is

a risk that the quick-acting coupling connection will come loose during operation thus
damaging the control valve.

* Also the return hose 3/8“ of the remote control shall be connected directly to the
reservoir. The same instructions apply to the remote control return hose as for the main
return hose.

* If the loader is mounted on the rear axle of the tractor and a trailer is used, a control
valve with floating position is needed for boom lifting and slewing. The floating position of
the Kesla loaders is realized by installing electrically activated extra valves for the lift and
slewing cylinders of the loader.

4.1 LOADER MOVEMENTS

* The delivery of the remote control includes the below depicted decal showing the
loaders' directions of movement. Attach the decal in a visible place in the tractor cabin.

9
MAINTENANCE

5 HYDRAULIC OIL
* A tractor 10W/30 universal motor oil or a hydraulic oil is suited for the control valve or for
the external hydraulics an ISO classificated hydraulic oil.

* FOR A CONTROL VALVE WITH HYDRAULIC REMOTE CONTROL TO FUNCTION,

THE HYDRAULIC OIL MUST BE EXTRA CLEAN. Therefore, if the filter of the tractor
hydraulics has many operating hours, put in a new filter cartridge and change the oil
before taking the new valve into use.

* If you have replaced a defect hydraulic pump, take the steps mentioned above and also
clean the reservoir, change the oil and clean it with a filter unit.

6 MAINTENANCE
* Air in the remote control hoses causes harm to the function. There is a "delay" before the
the loader function begins and the starting is jerky and feels uncontrollable.

6.1 AIR BLEEDING

- Loosen the fitting of the remote control hose, located at the control valve end, and give
pressure to the hose with the remote control lever. Observe the leaking connection until no
more air bubbles appear. Tighten the connection.

- Be careful when moving the remote control lever from the centre position, because, if the
remote control hose connection is not loose enough, the loader movement might function.

- Make sure that dripping oil is sucked into e.g. a piece of cloth, to prevent damaging the
environment.

- The hose movement involved, when air bleeding the remote control, is depicted in the
drawing below

MAINTENANCE

6.2 PRESSURE CONTROL AND -ADJUSTING

6.2.1 Safety instruction

WARNING !

* Be very careful when performing hydraulic couplings. A high pressure hydraulic oil spout
can cause a serious accident.

6.2.2 Measuring and adjusting

* The control valve has 2 quick-acting couplings for pressure measuring. One is in the
main supply line no. 1 and the second in the remote control line no. 2. The quick-acting
coupling for pressure measuring is of type Ermeto EMA 3. The connecting thread for the
gauge hose is M16.

- When measuring, use the power unit revolutions being almost half of maximum. A pump
oil flow of about 30 - 40 l/min (6.5 - 9 GPM Imp. / 8 - 10.5 GPM US) would be suitable.

6.2.3 Remote control pressure:

- Connect the gauge to the measuring point 2 of the remote control pressure.

- Engage any of the loader movements, e.g. "Close grapple". The gauge shall read a
pressure of about 25 bar. The maximum setting of the indirect control pressure may be
between 22...30 bar. Regulate with the pressure regulator valve.

6.2.4 Reducing main pressure:

LOADER: PRESSURE bar (PSI):

KESLA 201, 202, 202T, 203, 203T 175 bar (2500 PSI)
KESLA 304, 304T, 305, 305T 190 bar (2714 PSI)
KESLA 400 175 bar (2500 PSI)

- Connect the gauge to the measuring point 1 of the main supply line.

- Engage “Close grapple“. The gauge shall read P1 bar (PSI). NOTE! If the reading shows
less than P1 bar (PSI), first check, if the pump has an own pressure relief with a lower
setting than P1 bar (PSI).

* Slewing, lift down, outer boom down and extension out are checked by driving the
cylinder to its limit and reading the pressure from measuring point 1.

* The pressure relief settings for the movements lift and outer boom functions upwards are
higher than the main pressure settings, so these pressure relief cartridges must be
adjusted in a test bench or replaced, if needed.
NEVER CHANGE THE SETTINGS GIVEN IN THE HYDRAULIC SCHEMES.

12
MAINTENANCE

6.2.5 Replacing the hydraulic components

When replacing components, hoses, couplings, seals etc. of the hydraulic system, make
sure that they to their characteristics are the same as the factory installed parts. Original
spare parts are the very best guarantee for a trouble-free and safe function.

6.2.6 Changing the oil filter:

Change the oil filter every 500 operating hour.

Change the oil filter every 2000 operating hour, if the tractor has a good hydraulic oil
filtering.
