READ THE FOLLOWING TEXT ABOUT JENNA’S

EXPERIENCES IN A NEW CITY.

Well, I’ve been here in Seattle for exactly three months. It is hard to believe because
so much has happened. I was pretty nervous before we left the U.K. but it’s been
fine since my first day. I think I am lucky – I made friends with a girl at school named
Polly. We take a lot of the same classes and we’ve gotten along really well since we
met. It feels as if I’ve known her for years! She’s introduced me to other people, too,
and that makes a big difference.

Last week four of us decided to go to the Pike Place Market – there are lots of cool
shops and stands there. Then we took a tour on a Duck – it is a bus and a boat!

It’s great here, but there’s one thing I really miss. I haven’t heard any football news for a long time. Can you do me a
favor and tell me the standings? OK, I have to stop and do my science homework. My books have been in my
bag since Friday and I’ve done nothing for my test tomorrow. (Pearson, n.d., p. 40).

3. WRITE A TEXT ABOUT A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE, IT COULD BE REAL OR INVENTED. YOU MAY TALK ABOUT A
NEW PLACE YOU HAVE MOVED TO AND NEW PEOPLE YOU MET. THE TEXT SHOULD: BE IN FIRST PERSON
SINGULAR AND HAVE PRESENT PERFECT SENTENCES. USE “SINCE” AND “FOR” AS TIME EXPRESSIONS.

I lived in Colombia with my parents the first months of the year. In June, the university offered me a scholarship to
go to England and I accepted it. So I’ve been in London since July and it has been incredible months, firstly because I
met a new friend named Nathalia, she comes from Australia. She’s too
amazing and smart, in a short time we’ve lived many happy moments.

We both rented an apartment, we studied from Monday to Friday and on

weekends we went out to explore the city. I’ve also met many other people
who have a very positive energy, are funny and kind. The place is even
more beautiful when it’s shared with people like that. I’ve visited the
Palace of Westminster with my new best friend and with my new group of
friends we had a picnic in Hyde Park.

Although the time here has been very pleasant, I miss my family a lot, I long to see them and tell them with great
happiness how my scholarship was abroad. I call them daily by video call and they want to meet Nathalia soon, so
we’ll stay for three more months and return to Colombia together.
